i was reccomended a song on youtube recently thatâs been digging a hole into my brain
itâs called Jodellavitanonhocapitouncazzo, by caparezza.
i do not speak italian so i cannot enjoy it to its fullest extent.
it got me thinking about how hard it is to localize art.
there was a translation in the comment section of the song, and while it was good at being a translation, you canât read it along with the song, as it has different syllables, no rhymes, and the nuance of certain words are probably lost in translation.
if i learned how to speak Italian just to listen to this song, due to the way people are generally taught languages, i would still not fully appreciate it.
this is because when being taught a different language, you are often taught the english equivalent of certain words, phrases, rather than definitions, which leads to you translating in your head rather than understanding it in its original language.
itâs a shame really.
