"How to Throw Years of Monitoring Down the Drain in One Day" by Donnie Hendrix
Dedicated to the memory of Aynsley Norris, who knew a thing or two about throwing things down drains.
Death of a monitor (not the lizard)
My old reliable CRT monitor finally went phut a few hours ago.
It had started doing the wooga-wooga thing when first turned on, then settling down, so I'd finally (and about bloody time, say one and all) starting checking out LCD replacements. (Yes, all right, long overdue, you were still using a tube, you caveman? etcetera. Yup. Wasn't broken, didn't fix it. Until now...)
As usually happens in this house, when you start thinking "replacement" the soon-to-be-replaced takes revenge by forcing your hand. In this case it was the Five Esses: Snap! Spark! Startlement! Smoke! Stink!
The first four sorted out pretty quickly, and I've snaffled the flatscreen TV from the bedroom as a stopgap, but despite having the window open for hours, my office still smells of burnt insulation. Rather the way the day after a Mexican restaurant trip smells of ghostly refried beans. :-P
(Boy, I could do bad things to a burrito right now...)
