first off, fell!bear is a literal fell bear, as seen here this is a creature from "the notion club papers" by jrr tolkien
"Made in mockery of the huge cave and snow bears, the fell bear (La. "Pahanyëkarë") stood well over 12' and could weigh up to 2,000 lbs. They were noticeably less rounded and pudgy than a normal bear and had a lean, feral look about them. Their oily, malodorous fur was dirty white and grey in color, and could often be smelled before the bear was seen or heard. Their mouths were wider than those of normal bears, and their powerful jaws could bite through Chain armor with ease. Like the snow bear, their paws were furry underneath to allow excellent traction on ice and snow, with long, razor-sharp claws that could shred any leather or armor. The preferred form of attack for a fell bear was to crush an opponent against his chest with its powerful forelimbs while biting the victim's head or neck. The glaring, reddish eyes of a fell bear were equipped with excellent senses and nightvision. They had a rudimentary intelligence and were quick to learn from mistakes (their own or opponent's)."
In the dismal, pollution-torn town of Who'd Have Thought I Would Land in This Valley Valley (named after the first words of the quickly-slaughtered Hephaestus Tortoise, initial settler of the valley, after landing there), a Fell Bear (named, aptly, Fell!Bear) and his animal friends hide out in a big red house from the dangers of the human race. These animals are surprisingly intelligent, and they hold grudges against the humans that ruined their way of life- so humanity has elected to send a diplomat to Fell!Bear's home to try and create peaceful relations with Woodland Valley (the shortened name held by most residents). Fell!Bear is not happy with this, though, and creates little torturous games to mess with the diplomat, making it clear that when they're in his Big Red House, they play by his rules
YOU
You are a human diplomat sent to attempt to negotiate terms with Fell!Bear. None of the members of the Big Red House like you very much, and it's quite dangerous to be going every day... but you've developed a sort of twisted fondness for their cruelty, hoping one day to finally help them see your point of view.
FELL!BEAR
Fell!Bear is a Fell Bear (or Pahanyëkarë, from JRR Tolkein's "The Notion Club Letters"), a big, lean, mean bear with a putrid odor and an appetite for killing prey particularly gruesomely. However, he recognizes the opportunity to enhance relations with humans via your presence, so he begrudgingly doesn't kill you... before night comes, that is. In the first episode, you sign a contract with Fell!Bear: If you're still in his house when the moon comes up, he gets to kill and eat you. In the time spent in his house, he acts as a classic trickster animal from old folk tales, twisting your words and playing cruel pranks on you, trying to teach you lessons about how things work in the animal kingdom, and how poor of a choice it is for you to continue to return.
MESIAC
Mesiac is the Moon, in many ways. Not only is it the name for the real moon, which the animals see as an all-knowing, powerful being, but it is also the name of a minor goddess looking over the Valley. She and Fell!Bear know of his deal with you, and Mesiac relishes in the idea of seeing Fell!Bear finally catch you out and kill you, even preparing a song for nighttime, which you can usually only faintly hear as you race away from Fell!Bear in the darkness.
FELL!OJO
Fell!Ojo is a stray Fell Bear cub taken in by Fell!Bear. She's nervous, impressionable, and quite frightened of you, which Fell!Bear only encourages in fear due to his harsh treatment of you and his efforts to keep her away from you and other humans. Fell!Bear is quite protective of her, viewing her as a daughter, and makes sure that you can't get near her or "sway her with your evil human words."
FELL!TREELO
Fell!Treelo is a sloth lemur that somehow escaped extinction, but was deeply affected mentally by toxic chemicals and near-death experiences with poachers and zookeepers, only being able to speak in his own name and unintelligible babbling. Fell!Bear keeps him in the Big Red House in hopes of one day finding another sloth lemur and attempting to reintroduce sloth lemurs to the Valley, then to the rest of the world.
PUMMEL AND THWACK
Pummel and Thwack are two otters found barely alive near the riverbank that the Big Red House is close to, almost dead from plastic ingestion and only rescued by Fell!Bear. Their near-death experience has made them constantly agitated, unable to decide which of them is which (Pummel is the one with one ear bitten, according to Fell!Bear), and ready to fight with anything, although Fell!Bear tries to hold them back... before nighttime, that is.
FELL!TUTTER
Fell!Tutter is a former lab rat rescued by Fell!Bear in a violent break-in to a lab with a history of animal experiments and abuse, who now cohabits the Big Red House. The constant experimentation on him has lead him to be notably large- around the size of an opossum. He's sickly and thin, even when well-fed, and has a freakishly large, prehensile tail that functions as a fifth limb that he usually uses to get up to tall places. Fell!Tutter, despite his past with humans, is insistent to Fell!Bear that you can't be all bad, a notion that Fell!Bear usually dismisses as ridiculous.
SHADOWS
Yes, Shadow-S. Perhaps due to some sort of magical property on the land, or perhaps due to the addled minds of everyone in the House manifesting it, the darkness inside of the house's walls manifests as a silhouette of a woman, who Fell!Bear often uses the shapeshifting properties of to tell tales of the rich history of the Valley, or (if he's feeling particularly nasty) stories of humans being brutally torn apart by Valley natives. There's some implication that Mesiac is the one who created Shadows as an intrinsic link to the night, knowing of Fell!Bear's treaty with you- reminding you that darkness is always just around the corner.
