she’s deeply charming but also . . . it’s mostly theatre. ridleys know how to put on a show. ridleys know how to make friends. so meet frankie: #1 flirt, #1 liar, and perfectionist to the nth degree.

oxford graduate from a family of oxford graduates ; if you don’t get what that means for a person, substitute oxford with harvard and you might just about be getting there, right down to the annoying person — the sort of humdrum regular who grinds on francesca’s gears — who says ‘ oh, you went to harvard? say something smart! ’ growing up in a house in london that looks like it is out of a fairytale ( would be, if the city and all its bustle and noise weren’t on the doorstep ) is about as sweet as it sounds, and who could blame one for getting a touch . . . jealous ? well, other than frankie, a product of a private school in switzerland, an oxford college, and a trust fund, who could judge someone for breathing incorrectly, and says things such as ‘ jealousy is a disease, get well soon. ’

HOW DID SHE GET TO HER CURRENT POSITION ? . . .other than her parents’ money and a wealth of connections? well, frankie quickly came to understand something; that every time the older generations catch up to a social media platform, there’s a sudden vacuum as the younger generation work out where to go. and where the audience go is where the influence is, which gains you more connections, more wealth, more influence in places people would never even think to look. do you ever think about what information leaves your hands, and where, when you agree to the terms and conditions? you probably should. 

[ NOTE : when i imagine the platform, it’s something fairly twitter-esque, but without the people who use long hashtags and can’t figure out how it works. and more . . . aesthetic, somehow. like pinterest-level aesthetics. i’ll be working it out over time, but i’ve named it spectrum. yes, it’s named after the florence & the machine song, please don’t judge me. it started off as a university project á la the social network ( brilliant bloody movie ) that went onto a massive scale & became trendy and addictive. imagine if mark zuckerberg was a cool, bisexual, female ex-sunglasses model who once married the heir to grovesnor group, made him sign a considerable prenup and then divorced him when he cheated ( there was some full diana revenge dress content ) fifteen years ago, just before her old university idea went mainstream. he regrets it now, doesn’t he ? ]

imagine the kind of assholes who would give their child ‘ legacy ’ as a middle name to remind her of the constant pressure on her shoulders ? welcome to the ridleys, london-born mother & father to francesca ( golden child, with more issues than meets the eye, actually as much of a party girl as her sister but successful ) and roman ( motorbike-obsessed disgrace. ) they’re one of the oldest witch families out there, but — up until frankie & roman — they’ve been able to keep it quiet for their own benefit. 

so what does frankie DO with her magic? she always says she specialises in the tempting, though the addictive is perhaps more apt. want to feel so excited about something you’ll never be bored again? want the best trip of your life? frankie’s your gal. and does it have anything to do with how influential spectrum became & how much of an addictive presence she can be? . . . well, that’s for her to know & no one to find out. 

AND NOW, THE FINAL QUESTION: why the fuck is london’s premier rich bitch in where she’d consider nowhere, maine ? well, she’s on sort of a self-recreation trip right now. think about tahani in the good place when she tries to step out of the spotlight without actually doing it, except she’s thinking the sea air will cleanse her of a slight... unease coming with the approaching mid-life crisis and having to dye her greys out. 

but now she’s in a smaller place than sprawling london, living in that house you look at and think ‘fuck, i’d kill for that view,’ having to associate with people properly rather than being almost a concept of a person . . . what if people tear aside the mask and discover the serpentine nature and the moral rot that lies behind it ?

credits —

tj comes from cork, ireland where he was raised within a pagan witch family, mainly by his grandmother who he shares a very close relationship with. his relationship with his grandma and sister are the reason he is so protective and feels the need to constantly be “okay” and dependable.

his early years weren’t easy for him or his younger sister. tj naturally taking on a more protective role as a younger sibling, he wanted to shield her from the worst of what his father had to offer once the parent had had more than a few drinks. it gradually got worse once his mother left them when he was 5, meaning that tj was the perfect release for the anger and hurt his father was feeling for being abandoned; his own children being the main trigger for him. it wasn’t until things became physical between he and his dad that his grandmother stepped in, not realising the extent of the situation her grandchildren were in until it was too late. some of the scars from that night still remain on tjs body.

barbara o’connor ended up winning custody in court when tj reached 12 and it wasn’t until then that he had ever been in a home that felt like a home and he knew he was safe there; he hasn’t seen his father since, nor heard from him or his mother.

from a young age he had shown signs of being gifted in nature magic, especially of the garden and woodland variety. his grandmother would regularly take him on long walks along ley lines and to standing stones where he could fully appreciate and harness his powers.

the search for more people like him lead him here, with barbaras help of course, and she was the main motivator for him to come here and start again somewhere away from his difficult past. 

due to his childhood he finds it challenging to control his emotions sometimes, often resulting in things growing rapidly around him without him being able to stop it. he’s been working hard at controlling it, and his occupation as a gardener helps him practice and hone these skills. 

tj is a sociable animal, uses humour to relax people a lot and generally likes to use his “irish charm” on anyone he can, but there are very few people who know him in his low moments, or know about his past and he likes to keep it that way.

he is also a little scrappy, can get offended a little too easily if something hits a nerve and will automatically be on the defensive.

nature protection: due to being “at one” with nature, he finds that it often “protects” him in certain situations if he is in grave danger, this has only happened once before when he was much younger.

danger intuition: much like the previous power, he can sense danger through his connection with nature and also communicate with it.

superior botanical knowledge: he can identify any plant type/species etc etc 

environmental purification: he can save anything that grows in the ground from dying, or make it healthier with his touch.

plant manipulation: think poison ivy, he can control plants and move them which makes his job very easy

pheromone manipulation: hasn’t entirely gotten a handle on it yet, is hoping someone might be able to help him master it around town. but it means he can induce a chemical response through plant pheromones. it also grants him the ability to “mark territory” and warn off certain things. 

ecological empathy: upon entering an enviroment he can immediately sense everything around it, how pure the air is, how healthy the mud or grass is etc. this also occurs wherever he is considering how most things have some kind of nature inside of it !

ok so i have some random info filled out for him here but here is some actual backstory:

he had a pretty average middle class american childhood (or so tv tells me) his parents were together, he had a younger sister, and they all had a golden retriever 

that changed when he was 12 though and there was an accident where his sister ended up passing away and he blames himself for it 

his family came apart at the seams after that his dad left and moved on and started a new family and miles was left with his mom who was no longer in a good position to take care of him

inevitably he ended up going into foster care and he did not do well in it 

as soon as he was able to leave he did and he has pretty much been on his own ever since 

he travels a lot and doesn’t tend to stay in one place for long

when he gets bored of a place he packs up and goes somewhere else and starts his life there until he gets bored and the cycle repeats

but he’s been in monarda for 4 months now 

this does also mean he’s still mostly oblivious to the witch stuff 

he does not believe in the supernatural but i’m sure this will change quickly lol

as for his personality he is a generally bright person he is very social and loves to be around other people so he tends to make friends wherever he goes 

however most of these friendships tend to be rather shallow in that he doesn’t actually tell anyone important things about himself or let people get too close 

this stems from a fear of them deciding to dislike him if they really know him so he hides behind a façade so he cannot get hurt 

but yes he’s easy to get along with and he loves a good time parties bar nights any sort of social gathering and he will be there 

he’s also super romantic but tends to have an idealized idea of love which often makes his crushes and relationships unsustainable in the long run 

he can be super unpredictable although this may somewhat stem from others not really knowing him can’t be predicted if you can’t be understood in the first place or something

anyways yes he’s outgoing and loves to make friends

Being born into a big family has always been his greatest blessing. Having two parents, many siblings, and plenty of aunts, uncles, and cousins in town, practically in walking distance from his apartment in town square, is something that Marcus will never take for granted. Like most Severins, he grew up in Monarda and doesn’t really have any desire to leave. After all, leaving town means leaving his family, leaving the life he knows and loves.

Outside of Monarda, magic isn’t as well known, if it’s known at all. For all that Marcus knows, there’s no stirring the sugar into your coffee without the use of your hands, no sight of a knife chopping a pepper without supervision, no food quite like anything his family makes, where it’s somehow the best food you’ve ever tasted every single time you eat it. He doesn’t want to give any of that up. 

It’s easy, in Marcus’ mind, to stay. Comforting, in fact. Many of the people he went to school with still live in town, and there’s not many secrets that you can hide from the people whom you’ve known your entire life. Transparency is easy with them. That’s why he’s wary of newcomers, though - they have to be hiding secrets. He doesn’t like not knowing people’s intentions, though he tries to be welcoming to everyone.

Overall, though, he’s an optimistic person - he does believe that everything will work out for the better, no matter the scenario they end themselves up in.

here are some things about him that people in town would know !

he grew up playing soccer and was on monarda’s soccer team through middle and high school.

he was always better at english and history than he was at science and math in school.

despite the fact that he’s one of the younger severins, or maybe because of it, he’s one of the loudest - he wants himself to be known.

he was relatively well-liked in school - he’d consider most people his age to be his friend.

he’s bisexual and unashamed to admit that

he has an apartment above le jardin in town square, but he does go home for dinner with his parents and siblings frequently.

marcus had good grades in school, but he never really wanted to go to college, the same way he never really wants to leave monarda.

wanted connections !

best friend - someone who grew up in monarda and is practically inseparable from marcus at this point - if marcus isn’t at home or at work, he’s most likely with them.

rival - can be a witch or a human, these two are rivals ! they might’ve played soccer together, or maybe it was just a gut feeling they’ve had since kindergarten, but there’s just something about the vibes, you know?

an ex, perhaps? - they might’ve moved out of monarda (for college? for other reasons?) while marcus stayed behind, or there might’ve been a split for another reason, either way, they dated, and it didn’t work out.

all of his old friends - i just want them to be a little squad always there for each other you know? marcus is a severin, after all, and comfort is his Thing™, but friends are a big source of comfort for him, too !!

here is some basic template info about him. but here is some actual backstory: 

he’s from la and his family was pretty wealthy

he is an only child 

he always grew up with a lot of dogs

he’s a huge animal lover but his fave animal is dogs because he gets them the most due to always have dogs as pets 

he has always been pretty out going 

it is not hard for him to make friends although he was also more of a have a lot of okay friends rather than a few really good friends kind of perosn 

but he’s happy with that it never really bothered him 

his parents never really paid attention to him so he had to outsource attention 

plus he is a leo so

anyways as he got older he kind of started to act out and in his early 20s he was kind of a wild child he really liked to party 

it got him into a lot of trouble 

he had started an acting career with the help of his parents money but it went downhill pretty quickly because he got a bad reputation for partying to much and not taking his job seriously

eventually he couldn’t find management so he couldn’t really pursue that path and left the profession

which caused him to do a little soul searching 

he is still trying to answer the difficult question of “what do i want to do with my life”

this journey somehow brought him to monarda 

he felt drawn to the place and he loves that it is a small town because it contrasts nicely what he was used to all of his life in la and because it’s on the coast and he really loves the water 

speaking of almost all of his favourite things to do can be related to the beach like surfing obviously and then swimming and relaxing 

he likes to be the center of attention but is also somehow laidback 

like he likes attention but he doesn’t really let the negative things get to him 

he would generally be a calming person to be around even with his extreme extroversion 

he’s pretty much always just chilling 

on the other hand he is afraid of committing to things and tends to flake out of plans 

he is also detached so it’s harder for him to form meaningful bonds to other people because he never really as 

he’s a good friend but it’s hard to be his best friend 

he is happy in monarda he is just relaxing enjoying his time here 

he probably is at least moderately aware of the witch stuff not in so many words but he’s probably just like “idk that’s just how it is here it’s cool” about it

He grew up in the Midwest, always out of place, where things were never quite right. He had friends, and plenty of them - he had always been an eager child, eager to learn, eager to please, eager to engage with others around him - but none of that really mattered in the end. What did matter - what matters to this day, is himself, is Asher. The person that he could never be there, the only person he’s ever been here.

He moved to Monarda when his parents thought they were sending him off to college at the University of Southern Maine. He took the near-blank check he’d given them for tuition (filled out thanks to a small lie - I’m not sure if you should make it out to the bursar’s office or the university as a whole, I’ll take it and figure it out) and put a down payment on his shared town square apartment. Monarda just felt like the right place to go; he’d always known of his magical abilities, even if his mother never chose to teach him, always putting it off, saying it was something to save for later. The draw to Monarda was impossible to ignore. Maybe people would teach him, and, even if they wouldn’t... well, he wouldn’t be alone.

With just the things he’d packed for college (a few sets of clothes - the only gender-affirming ones he’d owned -, his guitar, some shoes, and some toiletries), he settled down in Monarda just over two years ago now.

He started off bouncing from job to job for a year, was a server at the Monarda Café for a few months, then did some freelance graphic design, then, when the Little Bite opened, he took a job as a baker there. He’d baked plenty in his childhood, it had been a comfort to read recipes and know that they were exactly right, and all he had to do was follow the steps to the letter - he figured that this job would just be that on a bigger scale, and he’d been right. There’s more handwriting on cakes, but he can manage that, too.

November 1st, 1997; the weather forecast, 7:17 am - 50 degrees fahrenheit as the high, 39 as the low with a 100% chance of rain. 

Parker James, mostly known as PJ, was born to James Severin and Tiffany Ahn. A couple who was looked down upon by both of their respective families, and even more once it was known that Tiffany was pregnant with James’ child. 

Their families did not agree to Tiffany and James being am item, letting it be known before and certainly more after the word of Tiffany being pregnant, that James’ family did not agree with it. he was just starting his life. Tiffany’s parents expected more of her, simply disliking the idea their daughter was pregnant before getting married and still in college. 

nonetheless, the two were in love and refused to confine to their families beliefs. they were going to have a family of their own, much to the surprise and disappointments of their respective families. 

two months before the birth of PJ, James Severin was attacked in a gas station after trying to take down a robber. it was in his nature to do the right thing, no matter what it was and if it could harm him. if he felt or knew it was the right thing to do, James did it. this was no different. Sadly, it cost his life while saving at least four others.

she wanted to, she really did, however her mental health could not handle it. Tiffany incorporated James’ name into Parker’s, but made sure she kept her maiden name. too much pain ensued at the thought.

Parker was a good child, curious as all get out. always had the knack of curiosity, learning more. 

when middle school and high school came around, she slowly started to grow a shell after being bullied, which in turn made her grow a somewhat cold demeanor, learning to bush off what she couldn’t be dared to waste her energy on.
