Hermione Granger should have known better than to follow strange noises down a dark corridor in Malfoy Manor. After twenty years of being Harry Potter’s best friend, self-preservation really ought to have become second nature. Unfortunately, Hermione has always been more curious than sensible. Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy know this about her. In fact, they seem to know quite a few things about her. Her favorite tea. Her tendency to listen at doors. The exact way her feathers ruffle when she’s embarrassed, annoyed, or enjoying herself far more than she intends to admit. The chair is already waiting. The tea is already poured. And Hermione is beginning to suspect that the Malfoys have been waiting for their little songbird to wander in all along.
