│ hey, new girl! ⋆ a series
✦ starring choso x new girl!reader
you finally arrive home and quickly kick off your shoes.
you curse at yourself for being so lovesick over a loser you just met on your first day.
but can you blame yourself?
"hey sweetie how was your first da-"
"SORRY AUNTIE I HAVE PLACES TO BE, LOVE YOU!" you say to your aunt, quickly giving her a kiss on the cheek before running to your room.
you can feel your heart hammering in your chest.
you sit in front of your vanity and realize...
"WHAT AM I DOING I HAVE TO GET READY!"
you jump up and run to the bathroom, washing your face and aggressively brushing out the knots in your hair.
after finishing, you jump right back to your vanity and do your makeup.
at least i look half decent.
you blankly stare at your phone, watching the time.
10 minutes to pick out an outfit.
you chose to be comfy, by the time you get home it would be late anyway.
plus, if he really liked you, he wouldn't care what you wore!
well, that didn't really make you feel better, but whatever.
plus, what if he didn't even like you?
you gather your textbooks, laptop, and pencil case and shove them into your tote bag.
you put your hair up in a clip.
take one last look in the mirror.
you then tell your aunt bye and walk out the front door.
you start your car and glance at the screen.
you let out a breath you didnt realize you were holding in and dial his address into maps.
you grip the steering wheel as you turn into his driveway.
you examine his house and spot a dimly lit window.
then, you see a tall shadow.
you swallow hard and exit your car, slowly making your way up to his front door.
as you raise your hand to knock, the door abruptly swings open.
you gasp and tilt your head up to see choso.
did he see me? oh gosh! i probably looked so stupid walking.. or just sitting in my car-
"uh... hello? are you there? are you okay?"
his sudden words slice your thoughts back into reality.
were you staring up at him the entire time?!
"ah yes sorry! i was about to knock and you kind of startled me," you start fidgeting with your hands "i didnt expect you to already be at the door ahah-"
"oh, i'm so sorry! i was kind of uh..." he pauses "waiting for you..."
what? he... waited for you?
you feel heat creeping up your face.
wait, is he blushing too?!
i need to say something or it'll be awkward!
before speaking, you clear your throat.
he jumps up and makes some space for you through the door.
"i'm sorry, i'm one million times sorry! im sorry for scaring you," he says, fidgeting with his necklace.
you look up at him and smile, "no worries, cho!"
turning back, you curse at yourself.
did i just make up a nickname for him? i just met him!!!!!
you then look back at him and tilt your head for a better glimpse.
well, that clearly had an effect on him.
explains why he looked like he was about to melt!
"i can show you to my room, it's kind of uhm... messy if you don't mind."
"that's okay! my room is probably worse," you reassure him.
he opens his bedroom door and what you see was definitely not what you were expecting.
you were immediately greeted by multiple anime and game posters, lined up perfectly on one wall.
three shelves with a mix of figures and manga.
a desk with a few scattered papers, pens, and the same textbooks you accidentally made him drop.
a separate desk for gaming.
you stand there dumbfounded.
this was the "dorks" room?!
i never would've guessed that choso was a geek.
you quickly nod your head.
you couldn't help but admire him as he started nerding out on each thing.
it was clear he kept everything somewhat neat.
you barely saw any dust on his figures.
"are you surprised on how well kept they are?" he says, catching you staring at one of the shelves, "do you know how long some of these took to get?"
did he just read my mind?!
choso carefully picks up a figure, holding it like it was made of glass.
"this one took me three months to find. three months. i know i might come off as a guy who doesn't care," he looks back at you, "but... i do."
you follow close behind as he moved from shelf to shelf, enthusiastically explaining lore, release dates, and tiny details.
it shouldn't have been this interesting, but it somewhat was whenever he talked about them.
every few seconds, choso's eyes would light up, and he'd launch into another explanation before remembering to breathe.
"and over here," he points to another display "is my favorite section!"
you weren't sure if you understood what he was saying anymore.
but, seeing him this excited was strangely endearing.
you finally make home at his desk, unpacking your things from your tote bag.
you turn to face choso, tapping his shoulder to get his attention away from his cat.
he nods his head and puts his cat to the side.
hours pass, and you guys surprisingly got some work done!
i didn't know he was actually going to take this project seriously.
as you're about to write, you hear soft breathing coming from beside you.
you turn your head and see choso sleeping.
should i leave now? or would that be mean...
you start packing up your laptop and supplies.
"thanks for inviting me over, cho," you whisper, facing him.
you hesitantly bring your hand up and gently brush some strands of hair out of his face.
as you get up, you feel a light tug on your hand.
you look down and see choso, half asleep, looking up at you.
"please... stay," he murmurs.
it was almost like he was begging you.
"cho?" you question softly.
for a moment, you wondered if you had imagined it.
the way his hand instinctively reached out, his fingers curling around your hand before you could step away.
his eyes were only half open, unfocused with sleep.
not quite a command either.
just a quiet, desperate plea.
your heart skipped a beat.
the room suddenly felt much smaller than it had been a few seconds ago.
choso slowly blinked, seeming to realize you were actually there.
his voice sounded rough from sleep.
"i was just going to head home," you answered.
his grip loosened slightly, though he didn't let go completely.
that single word carried an unexpected amount of disappointment.
an awkward silence settled between you.
then immediately away again.
the air felt oddly heavy.
after a long pause, choso rubbed the back of his neck and let out an embarrassed groan.
"i can't believe i just said that."
a nervous laugh escaped him.
yet the unmistakable flush spreading across his face suggested otherwise.
outside, the sky had darkened completely.
the only light came from the warm lamp sitting on his desk.
"... you know," he said after a while "most people think this stuff is weird.
your eyes wandered across the shelves.
the carefully organized displays.
you reach over and lightly tap one of the figures.
"it's something you care about."
for a moment, he didn't say anything.
"that's a normal person answer."
"are you saying you're not a normal person?"
"i spent twenty minutes explaining fictional politics to you."
"that's because you looked excited."
the words slipped out before you could think.
the tension in the room stretched until-
a notification sounded from his phone.
both of you nearly jumped.
he grabbed it so fast, you'd think it had personally insulted him.
and for the first time that night, he laughed too.
the sound was quiet, but genuine.
your eyes met afterwards, and neither of you looked away.
as if the two of you crossed an invisible line without even realizing it.
