okay, then explain me one thing, if fanfiction is made by fans FOR fans, then why should he care? it's not hurting him in any way. it's more of a huge compliment than anything else. it means that a person has effected people in a way that they want to think about them and CREATE things with them in the centre. how is that a bad thing?
Because there is a difference between the general concept of fanfiction and fanart - and the kind of fanart that is nsfw.Everyone involved in the show, INCLUDING Benedict have said on various occasions that they think "the level of creativity is amazing." (That's an actual quote from him from the apple q&a last February).Furthermore he said he doesn't engage with it personally, but he thinks it's great if it gets people to write or paint ect.But just because someone doesn't mind the general concept of it - doesn't mean that he has to be comfortable with it.Isn't that what tumblr is always preaching? That everybody has his/her own comfort zone and we should be careful with it?Well obviously he isn't. He has said on various occasions that he's uncomfortable with the more explicit fanart, and that is his right! I am pretty comfortable in my body, but even I would feel weird if people wrote about what they would like me to do/would like to be done to me. What happens though is that time and time again, the media brings up fanfiction and fanart with the sherlock crew - and I can't remember a single occasion where it wasn't explicit. They get it shoved into their faces by interviewers, talk show hosts and fans alike. Everybody wants to know how they feel about it.And that's the difference. That's why it does concern him. Because we and the media don't leave them alone with it.If he was anybody else but who he is, if he was simply some blogger on tumblr, people would be screeching about the fact that he was once again confronted with something he doesn't feel comfortable with - that he was triggered in a way.Why the different standards for him? I am not surprised that he spoke about it. If he feels uncomfortable with the explicit part of it - that's okay. It's his opinion.(Additionally the fact that the question comes up again and again might be really annoying)So it does concern him. Because we make it a concern of him.So do I think he has the right to speak his mind? Yes, I do
