Let This Fresh Hell End

We’re so close okay.

I mean it’s not even hell. This is way more organised than last semester’s crunch times. It’s the day before hand in and I feel very grateful for the Face Mask’s that Chris gave us for the workshop because spray paint is LOTS OF FUN. 

I feel like I’ve done a lot of learning this semester entirely by doing everything wrong at least twice. Sometimes three times, just for good measure.

I’m glad that I’ve made my mistakes, because next year is going to be even more important than this year, and I’m going to need to be able to get things right first time as many times as possible. 

It’s all finishing touches at the moment, things like putting together bits from our workshops with Chris and such, gathering up personal portfolio stuff and polishing up everything that I’ve posted so far. The vertical slice is uploaded onto the tablet, though There will be things missing in the final cut that I will try to have in my own versions, or at least in this blog.

So most of the Characters are now in the game, and the UI has been changed slightly. Originally we were going to have our portraits on the left side of the screen but due to some odd proprotioning and margins we moved it to the left for the ease of use. 

We also had a problem previously where any click would advance the story, regardless of whether or not we wanted it to, resulting in lost lines of dialogue. We solved this by putting a collision box around the dialogue box only, meaning that you’d have to click on that for the story to go forward.

So The majority of the scenes are done! I only have the one left which is the minigame scene but I should be good to do that in this next week before I get back to uni!

Quick scrum meeting with Bobbie and Liam, we know that everyone who’s been turning up regularly to meetings is on track as is. Asana is good for checklisting but the team isn’t keeping up with ticking their various tasks off, which makes it harder for me as a scrum master to keep track of what’s hapenning when we’re apart. Perhaps I should get them to tick it off when we’re in the meetings, but considering I can only get four of us in on the regular I don’t know if it’s make such a difference.

Relflective journal meeting with Andy.

It’s not as easy as I thought trying to pin down one particular thing that I want to talk about. I know as far as I want to talk about the emotional impact that Videogames have on people and how immersiveness and empathy play into that.

A few options I have to write about as essay topics are:

> VR and how it’s evolved to what it is now

> Escapism in Gaming

>What makes games Immersive?

what I could do, is because a these topics intermingle is try to find a topic in which I can address all these problems at once. I guess the most top question would be about Immersion, because that leads to VR and Escapism.

Today was the scrum meeting with Andy With Kathryn, Bobbie and Sam.

This was mostly to update Andy on what we’d been doing, though because Liam and Chris have been not attending our scheduled meetings they’ve been yellow carded by Andy. 

At this point I’ve been hitting some walls with the coding, mostly trying to clamp the camera so that it doesn’t move out of our scene, which is a problem I had last year in the second semester.

But once this is fixed I can move onto the state machines and the narrative engines.
