i'm an aspiring model and i'm in awe of your fast moving career!! did you have an agent before you got signed or did you get one after? do you like him/her? what about the other models? are they all nice or is it all as nightmarish as some say?? ahhhh i hear so many contradicting things that i don't know how to move forward ;(
Hello lovely!! Thank you for your kind words, theyāve uplifting my quiet and dull afternoon. To answer your questions: I didnāt have an agent before I got signed, it all happened very, very quickly. I attended Parsons and was quite involved in a lot of the internship programs which allowed me inside some large fashion houses but mainly magazines, grabbing coffee and taking notes - the usual. It was quite slow in the beginning (when no one knew who I was) but once I wasĀ āfoundā, people assumed I just waltzed into the industry. I did not.Ā I donāt want people to think it was easy to be where I am and to keep going where Iām headed. Hard work pays off, and I forgot about that for a while during my degree. But Iām definitely working for it now.Ā
I do have an agent now! Her name is Beatrix - we call her Bea though - and she is wonderful and hilarious and makes stressful times and decisions less so. It is definitely important to get on with your agent. Before Bea, I trialled a few possible agents - with the help of my parentsā and siblingsā judgement. Itās important to get the right fit, because if you and your agent donāt see eye to eye for what is best for you, it aināt gonna go well for you.Ā
As for the other models ā¦. well. Iām just kidding - majority are absolutely lovely! And the minority that arenāt, you most likely wonāt see or work with again. Itās an industry that seems to be built off of girls being nasty towards one another to get ahead and be noticed, and it is, but for the complete opposite reason: companies and brands are looking for people they can work with and work with continuously - youāre not going to get a call back if you were a bitch to the intern or the copy writer down the hall. Itās basically the same, from what Iāve experienced so far, with models interacting with other models. A happy set is a smooth running set. The photographers donāt want real anger in your poses.Ā
This spiralled into a very long message but I wonāt hide it under aĀ āread moreā because itās good information, I think. Basically: this industry is all about image so donāt be a bitch, be a hard worker, find a great agent who is honest with you and finds the right work for you,Ā be aware of your public image, and remember names of people on the lower ranks of sets and shoots - it shows you care and that youāre aware that not everything is about you and that contract. Itās a people business, so donāt forget to be a person ;) xxx
