this fandom cares too much when people mischaracterize characters I’m ngl 😭 some of the best ideas I’ve seen come from disregarding canon and just doing your own thing. My friend portrays Scraps as a villain and Goob as her evil henchman and it’s the funniest and most peak thing ever. I personally like to imagine Glisten as straight up mean and and an antag in the show. I could care less if it’s canon, I love it and I see it as such hehe
I feel like the problem is that people act like these alternate interpretations are canon (or they’re just stupid and misinterpret the characters accidentally) and it results in a ton of dumb discourse and stigma and false perceptions being spread. Like, if you wanna imagine what a character would be like if they were an antagonist, then that’s totally fine! I think that’s a great avenue of exploration, in fact. But don’t act like it’s canon. There’s a very clear difference between “I like this idea for the character better, so I’m gonna imagine them that way” vs blatantly misinterpreting a character, then acting like your idea of them is the only correct option and everyone else’s is wrong and stupid.
People are genuinely harassed and sometimes threatened or doxxed because of the false perceptions regarding certain characters. Let’s not forget the amount of hate people got (and still do get, though I don’t think as severely nowadays) for shipping Cosmo/Sprout or Shelly/Vee because they were deemed “toxic” based on mischaracterization or flat out misinformation spread in the fandom.
