Kitsune experience ruts (males) and heats (females) roughly twice a year, usually in early spring and early autumn. This brings about a near-overwhelming urge to mate, lasting for about two weeks. With this comes greater territorial and aggressive tendencies, along with protectiveness over their mate.

In terms of mate, kitsune are generally monogamous, and couple with their chosen mate repeatedly over the course of their rut/heat. Many will also ‘mark’ their mate, biting them where they can. After a successful rut/heat, kitsune will be protective over their pregnant partner for the remainder of the pregnancy, and well after the birth.

Kitsune have live births, producing litters of about three to five kits.

Kitsune are native to wherever foxes can be found, so essentially they’re found worldwide.

You can roughly tell a kitsune’s age via the number of their tails. A kitsune gains a new tail every 50 years.

Speaking of tails, a kitsune’s abilities are tied to them. As they age, kitsune gain more power, and usually a new ability with a new tail. However, if something happens to a tail (such as it becomes severed), that impacts the respective ability.

I’m part of the breeding program myself, but I’ll admit I’m somewhat nervous. Mostly my concerns are what I’d be doing should I successfully carry, but I’ll cross that road when I get there. At least for the time being, things are going well (as much as they can around here…).

Due to being out in the field often, I’ve been able to make friends with two variants in particular, a kitsune and a satyr. The kitsune likes to hear about any gossip I have, but sometimes he seems to know more than I do (I don’t fully know how, since he doesn’t really leave the area). The satyr is pretty friendly, and likes to make jokes a lot. I enjoy both their companies.
