Well, the adults didn’t really notice it at first, but the kids sure did. There were more unease, I guess. Less laughter. The occasional nervous glance, like something was wrong but it was hard to tell exactly what. You know that nagging feeling in your guts that you get sometime? When you feel that someone’s been in your room, or when you order a meal that kinda didn’t look right? It was similar to that. Then it was the animatronic reception. More kids started getting scared, or unsettled by them, and by that, I meant that it was happening more often than usual. A while after that, we started losing our regulars. People who came every week, some we knew by names or faces, one day they came in, the next they just didn’t. And they never came in again.

People still tried to keep their chin up, of course, but at that point, you’d have to be an idiot to not see the signs, see where things were heading. A few employees were actually caught writing up new job applications while still on the job. A few folks started coming in late, or trying to negotiate to be paid earlier in the month, stuff like that. It wasn’t that people started hating the place, or anything like that, no, people just kinda stopped caring. And well, it spread.
