Like. Have you considered the fact that 1902 was the same year that Daniel Marks was brutally murdered? And that in all likelihood the gambling thing started when he was lost in grief after losing his little brother? After he failed to protect him?

this narrow-minded focus on “outness” isn’t based in facts, in the real life stories  from queer ancestors. it’s just an extension of this overall cishet obsession with queer tragedy/betrayal/shame. it’s that same mentality that brought us the Season 14 of hatecrimes. as if queer stories are only consumable if they are served cold and dead.

also, it’s just boring. why is every disagreement between queer characters about how one is angry that the other wants more or less discretion? there are other sources of tension, other interesting ways to explore their identities.

TL;DR: queer people lived full and multifaceted lives in 1909. i just wish mm writers were willing to get over their obsession with Gay Pain and explore some other part of their experiences
