Hi!! It’s so cool of you to ask and take an interest in the ‘behind the scenes’!!
My writing process is a little all over the place and often different depending on the fic and how inspired/motivated I am. Sometimes I’ll go straight to the docs and start writing, then make notes within the doc for future me when I get back to the new WIP. Other times I’ll have fleeting thoughts/ideas/dialogue/scenes that play through my mind when I’m not able to write, so I’ll make notes and come back when I can. Some notes will only ever be drabbles, some are meant for a WIP that’s already in the docs—I just thought of something new to add—and some are brand new ideas I hope to get to soon. Some screenshots below—ignore any typos, most of these are written quickly and often late in the night. They’re just created for me to get my thoughts out.
Then, for stories I know are going to be bigger and more intricate, I make outlines. Some parts end up more detailed than others. Usually they tend to be the scenes/dialogue bits I thought of first, then developed the story around. Below are the two stories I’ve fully outlined from beginning to end, just because I know they’re going to be a lot.
I need to outline to remember stuff, but I have a bad habit of losing motivation for a fic once I’ve outlined it and I know how they end. Hence why I posted about the Vegas fic way back in the summer and it still only has like 1.6k words on it. Meanwhile the outline is 4K words, and that’s just the bare bones😅
