Louis Comfort Tiffany Peacock Table Lamp,1905 by Clara Driscoll Clara Driscoll was the head of the Women's Glass Cutting Department at Tiffany Studios. This lamp is one of the most iconic and well-known examples of Tiffany's decorative arts, and it is now part of the collection of the New York Historical Society. The lamp features a beautifully detailed shade made up of over 1,000 individual pieces of glass in shades of blue, green, and gold. The design of the shade is inspired by the peacock, with its feathers fanning out around the circumference of the lamp. The Louis Comfort Tiffany Peacock Table Lamp is considered a masterpiece of American decorative arts and is an important example of the Art Nouveau style that was popular at the turn of the 20th century. Venus Victorious, ca 1914 by Auguste Renoir and Richard Guino In April 1913, at the urging of French art dealer Ambroise Vollard, a surprising collaboration – an artistic communion, one might say – arose between the elderly painter Auguste Renoir and the young sculptor Richard Guino. Guino was to model sculptures based on Renoir’s drawings or paintings. The Virgin Embracing Christ and the Reed, 1670 by Frère Luc (Claude François) Trained in Paris, likely in the studio of Simon Vouet, then in Rome, Claude François joined the Recollet order in Paris. He took his vows in 1645, adopting the name Frère Luc in honor of the patron saint of painters. He painted the Franciscan devotions for convents of his order in several French towns. In New France, where he stayed from 1670-1671, his production of large paintings adhering to iconographic programs coordinated with architecture was an innovation. Dating from before his time in Quebec, The Virgin Embracing Christ, and the Reed is obviously meant for private devotion, as indicated by its size and material.
