I had an idea… mmm, I was thinking about a headcanon. Imagine the reader is walking with the Lin Kuei clan in Fengjiang to go to Mrs. Bo's restaurant or teahouse. They're going on a sort of date, and a little boy, who knows everything, mistakes them for his parents. He calls them "Mommy" and "Daddy." I'd love to see their reaction; it seemed fun to imagine, hehe.
waitttt omggg this is soooo freakin cute 😭😭 why did i never think of this???

Your hands were trembling violently though no one seemed to notice, thankfully.
Today, you had been forced to tag along with the rest of the champions for a group training session. Liu Kang had insisted it was important for you to participate, that building bonds within the team mattered just as much as honing combat skills. You could learn something new from one another, he’d said.
A technique.
A perspective.
Maybe even a friend.
You had tried to excuse yourself. You told him your presence wasn’t necessary, that the others would do just fine without you, but Liu Kang, calm and unwavering as ever, had gently shut that down.
So here you were.
Sitting rigidly on a bench at the edge of the training grounds, hands shoved deep into your pockets to hide their shaking. Your shoulders were tight, posture drawn inward as if you could make yourself smaller. Invisible.
Johnny’s voice filled the space beside you, loud and animated, completely unaware of the storm brewing inside your chest.
“—And can you believe the guy?” he exclaimed, throwing his hands up dramatically. “Had the audacity to try and sue me over movie credits. The nerve—”
You hummed softly in response, nodding when he glanced at you, clearly expecting sympathy. You weren’t entirely sure what you were sympathizing with, but that didn’t matter. It was easier this way. Easier than speaking. Easier than drawing attention to yourself.
Your heart was beating too fast. Your thoughts were already racing ahead, worrying about what you might say next, or worse—what you might say wrong.
You hummed again, noncommittal, eyes fixed somewhere over Johnny’s shoulder. Your responses came easily when they didn’t require words.
Nods.
Small sounds.
The bare minimum to pass as present.
Inside, though, your thoughts were racing.
You were painfully aware of where everyone was positioned around the training grounds. Who might look at you next. Who might speak to you.
Johnny eventually drifted off, distracted by Kenshi calling his name from across the yard. Relief washed over you so suddenly your knees nearly buckled.
You exhaled slowly and shifted on the bench, fingers curling deeper into your pockets as if you could anchor yourself there.
You were strong—everyone knew that.
You had proven it across timelines, battles, worlds that had ended and restarted. You had fought gods, monsters—fate itself. You had never hesitated on the battlefield.
But unfortunately, strength had never helped you in the social department.
A familiar presence settled beside you, unhurried and quiet. The heat that radiated off him was gentle, like standing near a hearth rather than a firestorm.
“You are thinking too loudly,” Liu Kang said softly.
You flinched despite yourself, shoulders tensing before you could stop it. He noticed immediately.
“I’m sorry,” he added, just as gently. “I did not mean to startle you.”
You shook your head quickly. “No— it’s fine. I just… wasn’t paying attention.”
A lie. A small one. But lies were easier than explanations.
He didn’t call you out on it.
Instead, he folded his hands together and looked out over the training grounds with you, giving you space rather than scrutiny.
“You do not have to speak if you do not wish to,” he said after a moment. “Your presence alone is enough.”
You swallowed, gaze dropping to the ground.
“I know you want me here,” you murmured. “I just… don’t know how to be. With everyone.”
Liu Kang turned slightly toward you then, his expression calm, eyes warm with something that felt dangerously close to understanding.
“You have always stood alone,” he said. Not as an accusation, not as pity. Just a simple truth. “Even when you were surrounded by many.”
You nodded, your gaze dropping briefly before lifting again.
He continued, voice steady and gentle. “Strength is often mistaken for solitude. For discipline. But it does not have to be.”
You looked up at him, uncertainty flickering in your eyes.
“And what if I don’t know how to stop?” you asked quietly, the words barely more than a breath.
A small smile curved his lips.
“Then,” he said, “we can start with something simple. Something small.”
He gestured to the bench, to the space beside him.
“Sit. Breathe. Let the moment pass.”
You blinked, eyes following the movement of his hand before drifting back to his face. His gaze held nothing but patience and kindness—two things you rarely allowed yourself to believe were meant for you.
Slowly, you nodded.
You scooted closer, inch by careful inch, forcing your shoulders to lower, your muscles to unclench. To simply exist in the moment rather than brace against it.
Liu Kang lifted his hand then and offered it to you, leaving the choice entirely yours.
Take it, or don’t.
No pressure.
No expectation.
Just an invitation.
You stared at his hand for a moment longer, heart thudding quietly in your chest. Then, slowly, you unfurled your fingers from your pockets and slid your hand into his.
Liu Kang’s smile was immediate but subtle, like he’d been careful not to startle you. His fingers curled around yours with gentle certainty, thumb moving in slow, grounding circles against your skin. A moment later, his other hand came to rest over the top of your joined hands, warm and steady.
You shivered at the heat of him as you let yourself relax into the sensation.
The tightness in your chest eased. Your breathing slowed. For the first time in a while, the noise in your head softened.
This felt… safe.
Like maybe speaking wouldn’t always be so hard.
Maybe being alone wasn’t something you needed to cling to—especially when someone could stand beside you like this. Quietly. Without asking you to be anything other than what you were.
“Thank you…” you whispered.
Liu Kang looked at you with that same calm warmth and hummed softly.

✧ homeboy shitting bricks ngl
✧ he has no fucking clue what he did or said
✧ all he knows, is that he is not setting foot into that house
✧ what do you mean why?
✧ he saw you before you even saw him
✧ just sitting there with your beautiful face
✧ cute dress
✧ gorgeous smile
✧ pretty bat…
✧ …
✧ bat?
✧ yeah, fuck that
✧ his mind runs a mile a minute as he hides in the bushes thinking ab what could have possibly happened for you to welcome him home sooo… lovingly
✧ did he forget an anniversary?
✧ noo, that’s not for like another three more months
✧ did he accidentally eat the last of your favorite snacks??
✧ nah, he made sure to replenish those before he got home the other day
✧ “You gonna keep acting like I don’t know you’re there?”
✧ his body completely locks up
✧ what’s that smell?
✧ oh...
✧ he actually shit himself
✧ he debates whether he should continue to act like you don’t know where he is
✧ except
✧ you made this creepy humming sound and tapped the tip of the bat against the floor three times
✧ “...Whatever I did, I swear I didn’t do it!”
✧ you tilt your head, pretending to ponder over his words
✧ “Oh? So you didn’t invite a random girl out to dinner?”
✧ now it’s his turn to be confused
✧ what are you talking about inviting some random girl out to dinner?
✧ he hasn’t gone out as far as he knew
✧ the last time he went out was when he—....
✧ Mmm… he sees where he messed up now
✧ perhaps pretending he doesn’t know will solve the issue
✧ gaslighting is free in this economy
✧ “...N-no?”
✧ you shrugged and lifted up the bat, eyes locking with his in the bush
✧ “Didn’t I tell you I hate being lied to?” you clicked your tongue disappointed. “It’s about high time I taught you a fucking lesson.”
✧ that’s how he found himself being chased throughout the Lin Kuei compound, with you hot on his heels, a murderous glint in your eye as he screams bloody murder
✧ “Wait, wait, wait—WAIT! WAIT A MINUTE! LISTEN TO ME—AHHHH!”
✧ it’s actually a funny sight to witness for fellow Lin Kuei members
✧ some even feel a bit of pity for the guy
✧ “....Someone should probably help him…”
✧ “Probably.”
✧ the chase stops when he squeals loudly as he crashes into Bi-Han
✧ “Bi-Han! Brother, PLEASE—help me,” he whimpered, clutching at him desperately as Bi-Han scowled at him
✧ “Let go of me, idiot—” Bi-Han hissed
✧ Tomás only clutched on harder as he blindly pointed behind him
✧ “She–she’s trying to k-kill me–”
✧ only you pop out from around the corner, sweet smile on your face and no bat to be found
✧ “...Tomás, dear, are you feeling alright?” you murmured sweetly, faux concern dripping from your voice
✧ he can only gawk at the completely 180 before flinching under Bi-Han’s glare
✧ safe to say, he steered clear of your path for the rest of the week
✧ he sent you many gifts until you got fed up and cornered him, rolling your eyes as you dragged him back home
✧ “Don’t hit me...please?”
✧ “I’m not going to hit you.”
✧ “...Promise?”
✧ “Not unless you want me to.”
✧ he’s—once again—a hilarious sight for the Lin Kuei members as he is seen dragged by you, pouting the whole way back (he’s exactly where he wants to be)
✧ “Are you still mad at me.”
✧ “Yes.”
✧ “Are you going to kill me?”
✧ “Depends.”
✧ “O-on what?”
✧ “How long can you go without breathing while I sit on your face?”
✧ well then
✧ he’s still gonna die but at least it’ll be underneath you and not to a bat
Kuai Liang
✧ Kuai liked to think his significant other can be very reasonable
✧ he knows you’re not exactly sane, you got a few screws loose
✧ but
✧ he also never thought he’d find himself in a predicament like this
✧ “...Love?” he murmurs tentatively
✧ “Yes?”
✧ “...Why do you have a bat?”
✧ like Tomás, does not dare get any closer to you, choosing instead to keep a long, long, looong distance between the two of you
✧ “Why do you think?”
✧ he eyes you warily, brain running through the many scenarios that could have possibly made you upset
✧ it can’t be because he arrived this late?
✧ he’s gotten home way past this time before and you’ve never seemed to be upset by it, instead choosing to wrap your arms around him and pull him against your body, snuggling into the sheets together
✧ he is certain he hasn’t forgetting any important date or event either—he checked multiple times to make sure
✧ “I’m… I’m not sure, love…”
✧ you tsk, idly swinging the bat, occasionally doing little tricks in the air with it
✧ “What time is it?”
✧ ahh, maybe you were upset afterall about that afterall
✧ he relaxed taking a small step toward you
✧ “Late. I am aware. I apologize,” he murmured softly
✧ “Mhm… and where were you?”
✧ he glances at you, confused
✧ he knew you knew where he was, he did afterall tell you before hand
✧ “I was at Madam Bo’s, having some tea and catching up with Harumi. Did I... not mention this?”
✧ “You told me you would be at Madam Bo’s, catching up with a friend.”
✧ he studied your face, lips pursing as he watches you step toward him
✧ “Lo and behold, my boyfriend coming home at—” you eyes quickly cut to the clock “—two in the morning. From a restaurant. Which he attended with a woman. Who’s. Not. Me.”
✧ okay
✧ he could see how this looked bad
✧ maybe he should have been considerate
✧ “...Love, you know Harumi is just family.”
✧ You stare at him blankly
✧ “My cousin tried to hit on you during our last family reunion. That’s family.”
✧ …
✧ you had a point
✧ “...Correct. But, you know Harumi and I will never see each other that way.”
✧ “Do I?”
✧ “I–”
✧ “I dunno, Kuai. It’s two in the fucking morning and you were with her since eight last night.”
✧ he flinches as you point the bat at him, slowly raising his hands in surrender
✧ “My love…”
✧ you huff and turn around, stalking toward the room
✧ “I'm too tired for this shit. You’re sleeping on the couch tonight, and pray to the Gods that I'm feeling generous enough not kill you in the morning, Kuai Liang.”
✧ “Yes ma’am.”
✧ safe to say he slept with one eye open that night
Bi-Han
✧ Bi-Han is not a man who get nervous
✧ he can very much assure that
✧ it’s just not in his coding to feel nervous
✧ and it’s also such an absurd thought, a weakness he will not show to no one
✧ NO ONE
✧ even if that includes his wife
✧ that being said
✧ the feeling that rises in his chest is NOT nervousness, but instead… concern
✧ the first thing he notices is the empty mount where your prized katana usually rests, the sword no where to be found
✧ he would have brushed it aside, had it not been for the fact that the second thing he notices is how dark the room is, save for the small candle lit near the corner
✧ the third thing he noticed was… you
✧ reading a book calmly, the small firelight illuminating your features delicately
✧…and the missing katana resting by your side
✧ “Husband.”
✧ like he said—not nervous
✧ concerned
✧ “...Wife,” he mutters
✧ “You’re late.” you state matter-of-factly
✧ “I was working.” he states plainly
✧ You say nothing, continuing to read your book as if you don’t have a murderous aura surrounding you at this very moment
✧ Bi-Han steps further into the room, taking caution to keep you in his line of sight
✧ although maybe doing so was a slight mistake
✧ he heard a string snap before quickly dodging an incoming dagger, the swift schling ringing in his ears from how close it came to slicing him
✧ he let out a bewildered grunt, looking at you with wide eyes
✧ “Hmm… should watch where you step, dear.”
✧ okay, it was one thing to be scaring looking but this?
✧ “Y/n,” he growled
✧ your eyes flicked to his, cold and disinterested
✧ “What is the meaning of this?!?”
✧ “Perhaps you should seek Sektor’s advice. I’m sure she knows quite a bit about how to help you.”
✧ Bi-Han pursed his lips
✧ “What does Sektor have to do with this?”
✧ “I’m not sure. I asked the same thing when she was sitting quite close to you today. Maybe her being bent over the table in your face might have helped with whatever it was you two were doing.” you uttered, flipping a page in your book
✧ Bi-Han frowns at that as he wracks his brain for when that could have happened
✧ he did have a meeting with Sektor to talk about the weaponry development
✧ and he did notice that she was standing closer than usual but ignored it as he had more pressing matters to focus on
✧ he certainly hadn’t noticed that she had bent over the table
✧ he would have immediately shut it down and have her punished otherwise
✧ he let out an internal sigh, still eyeing you from where you sat
✧ “I… was unaware. Sektor’s behaviour was inappropriate. I will take care of it and have her punished.” he muttered
✧ “And you?”
✧ “...Me?”
✧ “Your punishment?”
✧ his brow creases at that, body tensing
✧ “...I do not think I deserve one, after all I was not aware of such behavior.”
✧ “Then let me decide your punishment for being a lousy husband.”
✧ you snapped your book shut, standing up and taking the blade into your hand
✧ Bi-Han grit his teeth
✧ “Wife—”
✧ “And if you behave, maybe then I’ll decide if you’re worthy enough for a reward.” you purr
✧ a serene smile settles on your face before launching towards him with your blade drawn
✧ the sound of blades meeting harshly echoes through the compound
