rant time: i personally am getting kinda sick of seeing people online have this obnoxious and, frankly, condescending attitude whenever criticism of a film adaptation of a book is brought up (and i do mean substantial criticism, not just âthey cut a few superfluous scenes/subplots from the book that i like or they condensed these three characters together to save for time, so that makes it Badâ) that points out how said adaptation fundamentally misunderstood the message/themes + characters of said book only to be met with a barrage of snide âCLEARLY you donât know how adaptations or movies work, a movie canât be a 1-to-1 filmed version of a 500 page novel, that would be boring! Youâre all just a bunch of whiney snobs who can never be satisfied! You should just be grateful they even made it into a movie in the first place!â

iâm officially set to get surgery on my right eye that i have been waiting well over a year to be approved for by my doctors TOMORROW MORNING đ this may finally allow me to be back to my normal level of Shitty Vision⢠rather than essentially trying to function with one already substantially impaired eye or i could risk complete blindness but iâm trying to stay on the positives but i am also having my eye messed with, so i may be AWOL for an undeterminable amount of time online, at least for the duration of my recovery (however long that may be)
unfortunately, i literally only watched one movie last month that was genuinely enjoyable, so iâm cheating and listing my favourite first-time watches of the year so far :p
tried to post this earlier and tumblr COMPLETELY fucked up the entire formatting, thanks for that
propaganda here:
i. the courage the cowardly dog live action reboot we never knew we needed nor deserve; a fairly barebones (ha!) haunted house story thatâs more sad than scary is saved by a premise that couldâve been a cheap gimmick but luckily hinges on the performance of the most adorably talented leading man who, yes, DESERVES an oscar and a brisk runtime that crucially doesnât overstay its welcome. unironically, literally bawled like a baby at that ending.
ii. âstephen king does the hunger games wayyy before it was trendyâ ironically directed by the guy behind a majority of the hunger games adaptations. phenomenal performances here all around, but the flowers definitely go to cooper hoffman and david jonsson â recipients of the Doomed Yaoi of the Year award for 2025. this one is for the girlies that were obsessed with reddie and cried over the netflix adaptation of all quiet on the western front (you KNOW who you are)
iii. genuinely the best mystery-thriller film iâve watched in a long ass time, says the ever-increasingly bitter and jaded scream fan. featuring an absolute nightmare blunt rotation of a main cast that will make you go âwhat the fuck is WRONG with youâ many, many times and [chefâs kiss] zesty psychosexual freak4freak shenanigans between the female lead and the villain.
iv. amazing performances by willa fitzgerald and kyle gallnerâs biceps and a fun story that takes advantage of its anachronistic storytelling to play with its twist. unfortunately, the script has glaring misogynistic caricatury that becomes particularly hard to ignore as it runs out of steam by the end, but at least the ride is fun for the most part.
v. youâve already seen this one. and if you havenât, go watch it now. this is a threat.
vi. AND THEY HATED HER BECAUSE SHE DARED TO BE SILLY AND A LITTLE UNSERIOUS
health update 11/01/2025: vision in right eye has progressively gotten worse to the point where even my ophthalmologist is relenting on his reluctance to give me the go-ahead for an operation because with or without the surgery, iâm fucked either way and at least with it i have a fighting chance to possibly salvage my vision rather than passively waiting around another year to watch it deteriorate further. or i could lose my eye entirely, but hey: whatâs life without a few risks?
laproscopy is scheduled for this coming up tuesday, so wish me luck on that front at least đ even in the slim chance i donât actually have endo, iâm at least hoping this will provide some answers as to what's been plaguing me since april
