Some gifs below from the Mortal Kombat: Conquest episode "Noob Saibot", wherein Lao is crying to Raiden because he got into a fight with his boyfriend, Siro.
I mean, tell me Raiden isn't already shipping the shit outta this, too. At the very least, he's all-in on the gossip. Look at his smug ass (in all fairness, he looked like that 90% of the time on Conquest).
Kung Lao: We got into it yesterday.
Raiden: Into it?
Kung Lao: He did something stupid.
Raiden: Great. I love it. Tell me.
Kung Lao: He was attacked by four men, and instead of calling for help, he almost gets killed.
Raiden: Almost?
Raiden: …What a pity. Oh, nothing against Siro, it's just that, um, stories are always better when someone gets killed.
And I'm fast-forwarding a bit, but FUCKING LOOK at sad puppy Lao:
Kung Lao: He said things I won't forget.
Gifs from the Mortal Kombat Conquest episode “Cold Reality” (S01 E03).
Lao, Siro, and Taja return to Zhu Zin following the events of the pilot episode(s). Stepping into their new shared home, the old Reyland Imports Trading Post, Taja is immediately attacked by a Lin Kuei warrior. Siro and Lao defeat him, but he takes his own life rather than submit to Siro's interrogation.
As it turns out, Shang Tsung enlisted the Lin Kuei's help in stealing a powerful relic that was in the recently deceased Baron's possession. He intends to kill two birds with one stone by getting the Lin Kuei to not only steal this relic for him, but take care of Kung Lao as well, as he has since moved into the Baron's old abode.
Following multiple failures to secure this relic (a crystal that can be used to open a portal to anywhere, at anytime) the Lin Kuei sends the newly minted Sub-Zero. He fails, but only barely, as it takes Siro, Taja, and Lao triple teaming him to wear him out (combined with him overusing his fledgling magic skills). And it's Raiden's appearance that ultimately scares him off, rather than true defeat.
One of the better episodes for several reasons. JJ Perry is there so the action is great, it brought both Sub-Zero and the Lin Kuei into Conquest's universe, and also introduced a Very Important Item ™ into the mix, as “the crystal” would resurface as a plot device down the line.
This was also one of the versions of MK canon whose backstory for the Lin Kuei was that they bolstered their numbers with kidnapped children—this universe's Sub-Zero is later confirmed to be one of them. (As the show was set during the Great Kung Lao's heyday, he's not Bi-Han nor Kuai Liang. Given that his sister's name was Lisa, he's probably a Dave or a Bob or something. Or both. Davebob Sub-Zero. It's on his driver's license, trust me.)
