Drawing a Random MK character every day until i finish the series roster… DAY 30!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAH!!! First month officially into this series and we’re still going strong!!!

For day 30, i was given the lovely miss Ashrah! (I’m sure a certain mutual of mine will be happy to see i’ve finally gotten to this one haha!) A character who i actually really love and think has alot of really cool story potential!!!! Ashrah is a demon from the netherrealm, being sisters with fellow netherealmer Sareena and the other 2 demons from mythologies (Kia and Jataaka) Ashrah was made to be subservient to the head of the brotherhood of shadow; Quan Chi.

However, unlike the others, Ashrah managed to break away from his control at some point. And in her attempt at escape, made contact with this strange blade she calls a kriss… this blade speaks to Ashrah and tells her that the redemption and freedom she seeks can be achieved via slaying all her fellow demons with it. As such, Ashrah became the demonic swordswoman we see today!

For this pin, i mainly took off her MK Deception look, as the massive hat/veil combo and angelic whites contrasting with the golds give her a very pure look. However, one detail i took from her mk1 appearance would have to be her scars. Ashrah and Sareena have these strange scars around their eyes in that game, and -for me- i think it really sells this almost inhuman look to them. Especially considering the two have fully blacked out eyes as well.

I chose to forgo the eye detail, however i personally love the scars on her face, and think adding them makes the design stand out more than it would otherwise!!!

Playing with Ideas for Mk 1 rewrite of Ashrah

That is something you should know about humans, my valiant warrior: for them, there is nothing scarier than a woman who has the freedom, the desire, and the will to pursue her dreams without owing an explanation to whoever it may be. A woman who, yes, makes so many mistakes along the way but who never surrenders, never allows anyone else to say what she should or should not do. She will suffer, but she will learn. For that is you. You are enlightenment itself—not the illusion of purification or godhood but the light of knowledge. The light of self-acceptance and self-love. And oh, how they hate that. How they resent that they cannot be as mighty as you are. And how far they will go to bring such a woman down. You know it; they have done it twice by now. I wish I could say your fellow women would stand by your side; would raise you when you fall and would join their blades to yours. But unfortunately, we know that is not true. Because so many of them are scared of your depths as well, believing they could drown in them or, even worse, are incapable of seeing them and mistake the darkness of your waters for murkiness and thus can only ever glimpse at the surface.
