Pick a character I’ve written and I will explain the top ~three to five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

Aaaaaaa you are always so sweet to me (/o\). I’ve done Eirika so here’s Lyon.

Tbh there’s only one rule for me with Lyon: He’s Gotta Be Fucked Up. That usually degenerates into several parts:

He’s into both twins. How into and in which way/s is something I fluctuate on a lot, but the bottom line is if he could have them both, even knowing it’d make them uncomfortable, even if it had to be as zombies, he totally would.

Massive insecurity. Toxic barrages of “I’m such trash why are you even friends with me.” A constant need for reassurance, even at the expense of putting someone else down for it. Masculinity and social class issues. Uncontrollable jealousy. Etc.

Manipulative. As manipulative as possible. It’s the only power he has to get what he wants. He can’t just take it like Eirika and Ephraim can. 

He doesn’t get that he’s the bad guy. He hates himself horrifically, but always finds a way to spin or justify his actual actions. He doesn’t realize that his idolized love of the twins isn’t “higher” or “purer” or “more” but rather is unhealthy. Despite being their ~best friend who knows them ~so well, he will always simplify Eirika to an object and Ephraim to a threat.
