If I wanna be an emo Tumblr girl I gotta start posting
Indo-caribbean identity
I feel like indo-caribbean culture is very underrepresented. I never grew up with people from my exact culture. Plus most other Desi people just considered us not "Desi" I always felt odd because of this especially since I'm not just indo-trinidadian but Puerto Rican. My ancestors on my mum's side are from India and we're brought as indentured laborers after slavery to work the crops especially sugar cane. Most people are unaware of this history in the Caribbean and although its not the only history it's also just as important. When talking about Desi people don't forget about us who experienced diaspora.
I always felt weird about being a mixed person (in my case, Spanish dad-Moroccan mom) because it was like I didn't belong to Spain neither Morocco.
As I get older I start to feel the differences are even greater; it's mainly about everything related to both cultures.
Sometimes I feel slightly empty, it's like I'm incomplete and started to read about how I feel. This way I found that more people feel this way, people whose parents are first generation inmigrants: they don't identify themselves completely to a neither country/culture.
Anyway I haven't found too much research (at least in Spanish) about this but I'm still looking for more information that may help me someway.

I think there’s a beauty in being ambiguous to some extent. You can cross over into different spaces and maybe that allows you to bring a new perspective into the world and identify with others that don’t fit into a space. If I can connect with someone who’s othered in terms of ableism, their sexuality or whatever, because of my heritage, that’s useful. I like the way that I am and I wouldn't want to be any other way – I guess that's what I like about being mixed. . .
