Back again with more on mixed-use development, which I’m probably never going to shut up about ever I’ve posted links before about how zoning laws stand in the way of mixed-use building, but financing has just as big a role as zoning does.  It is almost impossible to get a loan for the sake of building a smaller mixed-use project in this country, which is pretty stupid imo. So while some mixed-use buildings are getting built here and there, they are usually very large ones, and as such the only potential tenants who can afford to fill the lower retail floors are the higher end amenities, rather than smaller services more likely to be useful to a larger number of people.
