First and foremost: I'm so sorry about getting to this ask so late, I had the semester from hell, and I got home and have been sick ever since. I also wanted to get some art done to go alongside whatever yapping I do. I'm hoping to distract you from my bad takes with drawings.

I think in characterizing ships, you need to take a couple interactions and extrapolate. Find aspects and expand upon them, push them to add interest, and see what develops from there. Obviously, I am not one to necessarily aim for grounded, but it’s a good start and a reasonable introduction to how I view Zarco and Diogo.

I know my answer is supposed to be irrelevant to their interactions, but I feel as though their interactions have made them so much more compelling. We’ve seen how frankly inappropriate their physical interactions have been. Zarco seems very touchy with Diogo. I always find that a fun aspect to take and run with. We love a touchy older woman on this blog. We’ve also seen Zarco be very complimentary of Diogo (I love that video where Diogo’s response to praise is just “Yeah I am great :3”).

They’re friendly, touchy, they have a good rapport, Diogo has said Zarco has been somewhat of a mentor figure in their interactions over the past few years. All this to say: Johann/Diogo mommy kink send tweet.

Obviously, the age gap has to be the big appealing thing for me. I love me a huge age gap (14 years isn’t huge, but we can make do), but what I think makes them more interesting than other age gap ships I frequently partake in, they don’t really feel like they have all too much of a power imbalance. Even with the age gap, with the mentor/student thing mentioned above, with the experience gap, they interact in a way where they almost feel like they’re on the same playing field (in a metaphorical sense, in a literal sense they are actually playing on the same field). That can be a downside to some people, but for me it lends itself to this idea that when they play up whatever imbalance aspect is there, they’re playing it up for the other’s enjoyment, for play, for explicitly just the two of them. If that makes sense. There is no end goal, there is no holding over someone’s head, there is no genuine or serious life implications, they play it up because it’s hot, it’s pleasurable for both of them. I don’t mean to talk about their dynamic or their relationship entirely through a fetish lens, but it does contribute to how I write/draw/depict them. Sometimes you just have to throw a random fetish into a ship to truly understand it. Y’all don’t want to hear my Sharks n’ Roses headcanons, I did get carried away in that aspect.

I know mommy kink Zarco/Diogo is not an uncommon headcanon, I’ve seen a few things about it, but I would like to propose pushing it further than I have seen it pushed. I would like to see fetish and kink depicted further than just name calling. It’s interesting to see fetish dynamics be more intrusive than that, it should affect how sex is had, there should be behaviors and rules atypical of vanilla sex, rules and behaviors seen even outside of sex. Nonsexual fetish is an untapped market here. Zarco taking on a caring, teaching, maternal role in their dynamic, in their relationship, is integral to the ship in my heart. It’s more pervasive than Diogo simply calling her “mommy”, “mama”, “mom” or whatever. I don’t think this is entirely the right format or context for me to go more in depth than that, but I may revisit and elaborate if I can find a way to articulate it properly.

In my pure, pure heart, Zarco is an old woman. In my brain and in my heart, she is a woman. Just as there are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see, when you get your butch and dyke card in the mail, a world opens up. A beautiful world where lesbianism is everywhere. A beautiful world in where Zarco is a femme, and Diogo is her boy, her butch. They are butchfemme to me and my world is beautiful.

I think they were both hesitant about a relationship, because, objectively, not a great idea to fuck your teammate. Not a great idea to engage in what some would see as a morally objectionable age gap, experience gap relationship. But just because you acknowledge a thing as a bad idea, does not mean you make any action to change where things are headed. Two nonparallel lines will always intersect. They are both hurdling towards a point. Johann will make no change to how she gets in Diogo’s personal space when giving advice, no change to how she touches her when they are passing by one another, or really just whenever Diogo is in arms reach, no change to the rather intimate praises she sings about Diogo when she knows the girl can hear, no change to any behavior, despite how obviously it all affects Diogo. But it’s a game, they’re both playing into it. Diogo keeps asking for help, some race data always needs reviewing, she just wants to be a better rider, and who better to ask than her teammate? She keeps finding excuses to be in Zarco’s vicinity, finding reasons to be in her space. They just gravitate to each other. They have all these shared interests and tastes, and they both want each other so bad send tweet.

I could totally talk more about the aus I have put them in and some current headcanons/ideas I have had for them regarding how this season is currently going. However, I’d like to put this out there first and gauge interest. I haven’t interacted much with Tumblr in like 6 months, I need to re-figure out how to do this. Plus, I would like to make more art regarding those topics, as, again, I feel I am much better at communicating my ideas through art rather than writing. I would like to ramble more on here to aid in strengthening my writing, but allow me my safety net for a little bit.
