Back when I was contributing to Hypefresh from the beginning of summer 2017 thru the end of summer 2018, one of the slew of music publicists’ clients’ songs that found my email inbox was MistaDC’s “Vicky, Fly Home”.

I dubbed MistaDC Seattle’s best kept secret at the time, in September of 2017, and the standout track finds itself still in my Spotify playlist rotation.

As a recent college graduate, the reliability of this track comes in the form of, you know, the many romantic encounters you have during college. The majority of encounters fall into three categories: relationships, one-night stands and friends with benefits. “Vicky, Fly Home” zones in on the romantic encounter a relationship brings, which, except for who you end up spending the rest of your life with, ends in an inevitable break up.

In fact, MistaDC shared with me his intention while creating the track: “I filled ‘Vicky’ with all the sentiments I had watching a former girlfriend depart our hometown of Tricities, WA,” MistaDC said.

The Seattle-based artist wastes no time on the track, simultaneously starting his first verse the second the track begins.

MistaDc starts out comparing his former lover to an angel, while insisting her Halo is calling him over for one more visit. That combined with the seamless transition to the chorus help make this track one of the best underrated singles to drop during 2017.

“Your Vicky secrets tell me what is on your mind,” MistaDC said to end his first verse.

Hear comes the chorus.

“I will pay for your flight, I don’t care if it’s alright,” MistaDC said on the chorus. “Without you I’m alone, I don’t like my new home, without ya/I doubt ya, ever feel the way I feel, ‘cause you got yourself a new man/I can’t really say I like him ‘cause he stole your heart from me, now we barely even speak/And no, I don’t like that bout us.”

Honestly, if you don’t relate to the chorus, then you’ve never truly been in love.

I bet you didn’t know the second time around during the song the chorus picks up a emo guitar solo that I don’t suggest listening to while taking drugs or drinking alcohol because your feels will be destroyed. Honestly, it’s worse than ‘Draking and driving’ because you more than likely will send that text you’ll regret. Instead, just enjoy the therapeutic music session (free of charge).

A third verse is provided by MistaDC frequent-collaborator Nobi: “Funny how I'm broke and I'm the one who fixed you,” Nobi said. “Now I'm floatin' on a boat of broken dreams and cracked promises, see through your lies like my eyes Nostradamus'.../Try to peel apart the clouds just to see if there's a meanin', funny thing about a heart is it never breaks even.”

If MistaDC’s a little lover boy, Nobi has perspective of the situation, even if he misses his former ‘boo thang’.
