So, uh, some of you asked for a sample of the revamped!Wolf and Ivan and here’s what I’m building this around this roadside cheap diner scene
“I can’t really understand if that’s your style or you’re a bit demented”
Wolf suddenly leans forward, resting his elbows on the table and it takes Ivan a lot of effort not to jump back. When he was little, Ivan was afraid of dogs. Now the fear courses dull under the surface of his skin, like mild yet persistent medication.
“You need to understand,” Wolf says in a confidential tone, all letters soft and light, a trot of a sentence, “That my levels of perception are different from yours.”
He presents an open palm and starts bending fingers with the other hand as he lists on, till the palm closes into a fist. “I am a human, I am a wolf, I am an entity. I am something that just should not be in the kind of reality that you choose to accept. It is not me you need to consider, or reconsider. It is the image of the world, as it shifts around you. It’s a tough one, I know,” he adds in a caring tone of a nurse. “You’ll learn as you go.”
“Did you learn it too?”
“Uh,” Wolf sighs, following a waitress with his eyes. Not even the waitress, but the plate of beef she’s carrying. “It’s different. How do ducks learn to migrate? Squirrels to stash food? Sables to hunt? It’s here,” he presses a closed fist to his lower ribcage, indicating some deep gut feeling. Not heart, not soul, gut.
