Dear Sellyn,
I do hope you are okay with this hand delivered note, as my family cannot afford postage stamps. My sister has gone and gotten herself kidnapped, I suspect by one of the fae.
He has placed an enchantment on my father and sister and I fear I’m going mad. No one seems to remember her capturing besides myself.
What does one do in such a circumstance?
As the status of my family has fallen greatly, I shall keep this message anonymous.
-A Lady of only death
Dear Lady of Only Death,
This columnist admires your perseverance and dedication to finding your sister. Is it only your father and sister who don’t remember her going missing, or the whole town? I would ask around if you can and take the temperature of townsfolk who might know you. Assuming this is a more blanketed sort of glamour (another term for a fae enchantment), your work will be cut out for you.
Contrary to popular belief, popular methods of spell breaking—protective amulets, baths of wormwood and iron, ringing your house with salt—are folklore at best, peddled by predatory charlatans or just plain ineffective against all but the mildest of spells. Real cursebreakers DO exist but are rare on your side of the wall, and extremely expensive.
So - my advice to you firstly is to first gather up any and all items of hers you have in one place, as well as any evidence the kidnappers left behind. Two, file a missing persons report with the local constabulatory. They may scoff at it now but curses glamorous don’t last forever and when this one wears off, you’ll be ahead of the game. You may also want to look into whether there are any mercenaries working pro bono in your area. Mercs are strange folk and during slow times of the year, they sometimes take on interesting cases just to stay occupied.
As the old saying goes - “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.”
