🦇 alphas / nocturns (meaning night):

alphas are characterised mainly by their highly sociable and loyal nature. they are valued for high intelligence. alphas typically have very strong scents, but do not necessarily have strong roosting impulses

🦇 betas / stellas (meaning stars):

betas may or may not have alpha or omega traits, such as mating calls, and roosting impulses. betas are often helpful in maternal roosts and help to feed other roostmates. they are more fiercely protective than typical betas and are very physically affectionate. they may or may not have a scent, but are more likely to than omegas

🦇 omegas / lumos (meaning light):

omegas are fiercely protective due to typically having one pup per cycle. they are often very generous but are typically scentless. they have strong roosting instincts and are particularly sociable with other omegas and betas, and can be with alphas

🦇 behaviours:

as bats typically hibernate in the winter, a miscechiropter society is often more dormant during this period, spending long hours resting and sleeping either alone or in roosts, which can be solely omegas (etc), or can be mixed-dynamic.

mating season is during the late summer to autumn, but maternal colonies are not formed until after the winter as pups are born in spring. mating between different colonies is very common. colonies can vary in size and typically have very strong lifelong bonds

other than speech, communication and emotion is expressed through squeaks, trills, screeches and chirps. alphas attract with unique calls that can sometimes sound more like squawks and buzzes, as well as strong scents
