Long post 🚨: This is ME. No filter, limited makeup via @makeupbyjheneen and coco oil courtesy of @eniafe.isis . But before I explain how afraid I was to post this, let me make something VERY clear: Having real confidence in yourself is learned/earned but LOVING yourself is a daily struggle. This is a window into mine. While we all often look at people and say “oh they’ve got it together” I’ve worked very hard, particularly on here, to display my journey FULLY. I’m not here to inspire you, if I do that’s great... but I am here to be fully human and fully me. This is me holding myself to that FOR me. When @eniafe.isis hit me and asked me to take part in this project @allherwords , like most things it wasn’t a question- empowerment? Women? Melanin?! I’m THERE. The day of the shoot was magical. PURE MAGIC ✨. When I left I felt on fire and uplifted. It was the first day in months that i didn’t feel like i was failing. Like i was a sham. I was fighting for my light desperately while slipping to darkness. And then I did get dark and when I finally received the pictures all I saw was the ugliness inside I was trying to kill. Now here’s the hardest part and why mental health is so important.... I have amazing friends and family who would pour into me and tell me how crazy I was for thinking things about myself, how beautiful I am inside and out etc.... But if you’ve ever succumb to your darkness, you know how that can make you look at even the most loyal in your life as liars. I’ve never cried so hard as when I found myself attacking @eniafe.isis (and I’m SO sorry sis) for what I saw as an unflattering, hideous picture of myself. And immediately having to admit to her that I was low, dark and not in a place of loving myself to see anything in this. I saw the fear across my brow, the fat I’d gained from stagnation and the uncertainty of where I was headed in my eyes. Deepak’s book Power, Grace & Freedom reaches that we are not flawed, we are complete. We always have a choice and if FEAR is false evidence appearing real, I choose to know what is real. ...and #MirSays THAT is the root of all our problems. We don’t teach human beings that the BEING part is most important. We don’t teach that you have to face your dark to know your light. We don’t teach that change comes only after honestly and truthfully assessing what IS. In its ENTIRETY not just what we’re comfortable with. I just want to teach. I believe if we all taught what we’ve learned through growing and BEING, the world will start to heal itself. We have to be courageous enough to do so.
