9. What other fantasy books do you like?

Oh man, I love this genre, so there’s a lot. Off the top of my head, Codex Alera, the Poppy War, An Ember in the Ashes, Seraphina, Gods of Blood and Powder, the Broken Earth, Shades of Magic, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Monstress... these are all somewhat recent reads, and not including juggernauts like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, for instance.

25. If stormlight were to be a movie, what would be your ideal casting/directing style?

as for your question:

House Stark is definitely mongolian inspired, while I imagine the rest of the northern houses as Siberian and Russian, plus the wildlings wich I love to picture as Inuit.

The Iron Islands I like to connect to scotland, though I think I’d have to let go of most of the plaid if I decided to make some more serious designs :D

Then there is house Arryn and the Eyrie wich I usually see as scandinavian, especially as Denmark. The Fingers are kind of slavic in my head.

If we go further south everything goes a bit muddy/generally european, the riverlands I always affiliate with Germany. House Lannister is british while I see the Baratheons as maybe french or italian, kind of the same with the Tyrells ( I generally am not as interested in these houses so that would probably become clearer if I actually decided to think about them a bit more…)

Dorne on the other hand I am very interested in! I really like the common headcanon of the Martells being Indian, but when I designed the sandsnakes some time ago (they sadly never got finished) I took a lot of inspiration from Egypt and Ethiopia, as well as many other african countries.

Of course there are also the Targaryens who I broadly picture as asian, but I always struggle between chinese and korean headcanons, and I don’t want to mix those up too much.

Essos is so gigantic that I havent got thoughts on every region, but when I think about Braavos, Lorath, Pentos etc. I mostly picture Arabia, Persia and Turkey.
