I had a pretty decent day until I learned that I couldn't try out for my school's One Act plays because the performance date conflicts with the holiday party that my parents throw every year. Already being out of my father's favor right now, I decided not to just go ahead and try out anyway. I was feeling pretty crappy and was perusing FB when I re-came across the concept of Kiva Micro Loans. Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. I had them randomly select a woman in need for me to donate to and I have donated $25 to Karina Lizzette of El Salvador to buy gold jewelry, trousers, shirts, and lingerie for her clothing business. Karina has raised 37% of all the money she needs to do this ($225 of $600 needed).
