I already thought that it was the case after seeing some canon ages of older Miqo'te being barely above 40, but the Hildibrand quests makes it abundantly clear. They get old at age 40. Poor things, are they having a shorter lifespan than the other races?

with the way mauh lihzeh dismisses male keepers as being 'better in small doses' i've always kind of assumed the tradition of naming them after their mothers was born from a feeling that they aren't worth the trouble of coming up with individual names for (which, to be clear, would be hilarious if true) but i think it's probably more likely that since male keepers are prone to wandering, their mother's name has the same general effect as the colored tattoos that are supposed to give them menphina's protection. it's a sort of charm intended to insure they never forget where (and more specifically who) they came from so they can always find their way home

anyway there need to be more plot important male keepers so that ppl will stop calling my guy by his mother's name

on the subject of miqo'te names, keepers of the moon just give their sons their mom's name with a suffix denoting birth order, so rubh'a epocan is the first son of rubh epocan, and my wol's name (nhaza'to jaab) literally means "nhaza jaab's second son"

being a miqote is all well and good until you have a sewer fight and remember they canonically have a better sense of smell than the other races
