Finally, the day was coming to a close. Dylas stacked a few plates above the food station in the Oakwood, and began to untie his apron. Though he had refused to wear it the first few days of working there, the other employees would chastise him for not “keeping up appearances,” so he had begrudgingly worn it the following days. After all, he needed to keep on everyone’s good side if he ever wanted to get behind the line and start cooking the dishes he eyed during every service.
Dylas sighed as he walked out from the kitchen, throwing an uncaring hand back and grunting to the staff as his way of goodbye. He glanced at the front counter, cocking an eyebrow when he spotted a petite, mint-haired girl picking up a to-go order from Kai. She seemed to speak with carelessness and glee -- an annoyance that immediately made Dylas head for the door rather than stop and chat to his coworker. He exited the shop, hearing the familiar ding of the bell as he left, his hands in his pocket to shadow some of the cold. His horse like ears pricked -- another ding followed shortly after he exited the restaurant, and he shot a quick glance backward. It was the girl from the counter, looking joyful with her soon-to-be devoured food. Dylas clicked his tongue before walking on, shouldering the cold while also managing to look more intimidating to talk to.
As he trudged his normal path toward his small room at the Bell Hotel, Dylas couldn’t help but peek once again when he heard small footsteps behind him. The girl was still behind him, seeming to match equal step with sureness, just as he did. He took too long of a moment to stare in question, as the girl’s eyes met his. Dylas’ eyes widened, but he quickened his pace a bit. The closer he got to the hotel, the closer the girl seemingly got to him. It was starting to tick him off. At the last corner before the hotel, Dylas carefully listened to see if the girl’s feet would also take the same path. Once he heard the small shoes behind him, he snapped back, a slight snarl on his lips.
“What’s the big deal? Are you following me?”
