What We're Working on (August 2021)
We have two main branches that our work follows:
The first is what we call Shark PR - we are analyzing data and preparing a communication h in the next few months. This entails literature review, survey design and analysis, and communication planning. Shark PR is combating negative language from public shark discussions and replacing with more neutral terminology and accessible science.
The second is Chemical Oceanography - environmental observations; SST, pH, Salinity, Specific Gravity, etc. as well as collection of environmental DNA for white and mako shark detection.
Both of these projects branch out into our education and outreach work - we are particularly interested in more open access to math & science in underserved communities. That being said, we have a very fluid way of doing research and education in the field. We recognize that there are different learners and we allow science homework to be turned in with a painting, poem, etc. when it shows comprehension of the subject.
