Bill is a Cat

Summary: Bill is a cat and no one can convince Mabel otherwise.
#1 He likes to lay on people while they sleep.
When Bill had first managed to materialize himself into the real world everyone was wary of the triangle.
That wore off after a week and Bill was treated more as an annoying pet than an adversary to be feared. Sure, he still did weird things and liked to creep out the twins, but it was more harmless based stuff.
Any fear Mabel might have still had for the demon was finally conquered when she came back home after a date with Pacifica. All the lights were out, but she could hear the TV in the living room. Which meant that the grunkles had gone to bed and Dipper was up late watching one his nerdy shows.
When Mabel walked into the living room she expected to see her brother sitting in the chair with his head leaning against his hand, fast asleep, and the TV still proudly explaining something boring. She wasn't wrong and that is exactly what she found, except at some point a certain triangle had made himself comfy in her brother's lap.
Mabel held in her squealing until she was alone, then she immediately got her camera and took a picture before either of them woke up.
#2 He is always getting into things he isn't supposed to be in.
There were several reasons that Smile Dip was banned from the Shack. Good, solid reasons, but Mabel had been living with her Grunkle long enough to know that anything was legal as long as the cops weren't around. In this case the cops were her brother and Grunkle Ford. So, Mabel did a great job of keeping her Smile Dip times short and away from the prying eyes of her family.
She even had a cool hiding spot that she had found while exploring the shack one evening. No one knew about it except for her and she assumed her secret was safe.
Until one evening while her family was out and she had the whole shack to herself. Deciding to entertain herself by snacking on some Smile Dip and watching local TV Mabel had gone to her hiding spot, only to find her stash was missing.
She tore the whole hiding spot apart, but didn't find her precious treat. It was only when she had stopped her frantic searching that she heard it. There was a loud buzzing sound coming from the attic of the shack. Mabel had seen enough horror movies to know that following a weird noise was always a bad idea, but Mabel also knew it wouldn't be held against her if she went and looked anyway.
So, with her grappling hook at the ready she opened the door. Though it was completely unnecessary as the only thing in the room was Bill. Who, for some strange reason, was buzzing loudly, sitting on Dipper's bed, and facing the wall.
At first Mabel was stumped, but then she spied the empty Smile Dip packets surrounding the bed and got a bad feeling. Her grappling hook may prove to be handy after all.
"Hey, Bill?" There wasn't an answer at first, but when Mabel got closer to the bed, the buzzing stopped. Then slowly Bill turned around until his whole body was facing Mabel, his pupil so large that all she could see was the endless black. It was creepy, but then Bill had to go and open his mouth.
"Shooting Star, did Pine Tree turn into a pine apple?" Of all the questions Mabel had been expecting, that would have never be one of them.
"Not that I'm aware of. Why?" Bill's one big eye started getting misty and Mabel watched in shock as tears spilled over.
"I don't want Pine Tree to get eaten by the green ghost."
"I'm sure Dipper will be fine! He's strong!"
"Yes, he is. And pretty." Then Bill promptly fell over, his little limbs twitching and pink sugar spilling out of his eye instead of tears.
#3 He's lazy.
"You have to move!"
"I don't want to...."
"Bill! I have to clean the couch off because Pacifica is coming over!"
"Tell Blondie to deal."
"BILL! MOVE!"
"No." Mabel groaned in frustration as she contemplated just kicking the chair the demon was lounging in.
"Oh come on! Something has to get you to move!"
"Find me a Pine Tree and I may consider it."
"Why can't you just go find Dip-dot yourself?"
"I dun wanna." The demon whined and Mabel just really wanted to kick him instead of the chair.
"Bill, you can't stay in that chair all day!"
"Wanna bet, Shooting Star?"
"UGH! DIPPPPPER!"
#4 He loves warm things.
At first it wasn't a big deal when Mabel couldn't find some of her sweaters and a few of Dipper's shirts had also gone missing. Things went missing in the Shack all the time and usually the Pines didn't think anything of it. But this time Dipper's hat was missing and her brother was driving himself crazy trying to find it.
"There are other hats just like it in the gift shop, bro-bro."
"I don't want those hats, Mabel! I want my hat!" Mabel rolled her eyes at her brother's half whine.
"We could ask Bill."
"He said he's working and doesn't want to be disturbed." Mabel could understand the demon had very important work that he really shouldn't be distracted from. However, if she had to watch her brother go through his drawer one more time only to not find the hat and whimper, she was going to shove his head into the drawer.
Which was how she ended up sitting on the floor of the attic, her skittish brother in the bathroom, and summoning Bill. The dream demon materialized into the air and then fell out of it with a plop. To Mabel's surprise Bill was wearing one of her sweaters and Dipper's hat hovered over his head.
"Bill..."
"I was going to give it back."
#6 He likes being pet and having attention.
The thing that really solidified Bill being a cat was when he would practically beg for attention. At first it would be subtle like pestering one of the twins for their opinion on a matter he knew more on than they ever could. Then when that failed to get a response he would passive-aggressively threaten them.
That would devolve into whining, which annoyed the crap out of everyone in the shack. Finally the demon would just stubbornly get in the way of whatever they were trying to do. His color turning a dark red as he started ranting about never getting attention. The only way to shut him up would be to start petting him.
Bill would stiffen, then relax with his color switching back to yellow. Usually if Dipper was the one doing the petting, Bill would start that weird buzzing up and crawl into her brother's lap.
Mabel liked to tease Dipper about having his own personal lap demon, but he didn't usually find it as funny as she did.
#7 HATES BATHS
Mabel had lived with her brother all her life and knew when he was avoiding showering. He couldn't just give in when she caught him either, he had to argue and try to come up with a clever excuse as to why not showering was valid.
"I'm a busy guy!"
"I'm in the middle of this great writing streak and to stop now would be a loss for my readers!"
"It's only been a few weeks!"
"Suddenly people have to shower every day???"
Mabel's favorite up until recently had been:
"THERE IS A WEREWOLF TRYING TO TEAR APART THE FRONT DOOR AND YOU’RE WORRIED ABOUT ME SHOWERING?!"
Then her brother had really come up with the crown jewel of excuses when she cornered him about his terrible hygiene.
"Bill doesn't have to bathe!" Of course the demon's name caught his attention and he reluctantly pulled away from Baby Fights.
"I'm a demon, Kid. We don't smell."
"Says you! You can't smell yourself!" Dipper must have really been grasping at straws as he ignored the tell-tale signs of Bill getting mad and continued talking.
"If he doesn't have to shower then neither should I!" Mabel could see that this situation was just going to keep rounding about if she didn't find a way out.
"So, both of you take a shower then."
"What?" Both of them stared at her dumbly and she had to sigh in exasperation as she pointed to both of them.
"Go upstairs and get clean!" By now both twins knew the signs when Bill was about to flee, so the demon didn't get a chance to before he was being plucked out of the air and shoved into Dipper's arms.
"RELEASE ME AT ONCE!" Bill's claws grew longer, but Mabel knew it was just for show. He'd never actually use them on Dipper.
"PINE TREE, PLEASE LET ME GO! I DON'T NEED A BATH!" The demon yowled and whined his protests loudly as he was carried up the stairs. The yowls only grew louder when there was the sound of running water.
Mabel was about to change the TV station when she heard a loud crash and the sound of something skittering down the stairs. This was followed by her brother's loud foot steps.
Mabel tried hard not to bust an organ laughing as a wet and soapy Bill Cipher ran on his little short legs out the front door. A wet, but fully clothed Dipper right behind him.
#8 Favors one person above all others.
When Mabel finally got all of her family together and invited Pacifica to a family dinner, she expected it to be a fun affair.
She really should have known better with her family's history.
She also needed to find a better hiding spot for her Smile Dip. And not just because Bill hung from the light above the table and refused to come down for anyone except Dipper. However, Dipper refused to get Bill down until Pacifica apologized for her rude comment about his smell. Pacifica of course refused to apologize for anything.
Neither of them budged even when the demon started bawling and random fires would crop up around the kitchen. Ford had tried to forcefully remove Bill from the light fixture, but that had almost resulted in him having only five fingers on one hand. He had managed to keep the finger, but the bleeding wouldn't slow down and Stan was forced to take his brother to the hospital.
Which left Mabel to deal with putting out fires on her own and trying to get her family to be reasonable.
Though it wasn't all bad because Dipper did finally agree to get Bill down when the demon started meowing loudly and wouldn't stop.
Even if him and Pacifica still continued to argue as Mabel finished cleaning up the remains from the failed dinner.
At least Bill was happy, buzzing away in Dipper's arms as her brother pet him.
