You and Jack had been texting for weeks now , every day turning into every night without either of you really noticing when it happened . Little things . Random pictures . Him checking in during shifts . You falling asleep with your phone still in your hand because his name kept lighting up your screen .
Then suddenly you stop replying , No replies . No little “mhm” texts . Nothing .
Jack stares at the last conversation from a few days ago longer than he should , thumb hovering over the keyboard before he finally calls you . Once . Twice , it didn’t really even get to the second ring it just went Straight to voicemail .
By the third day , your not even in for your shift , he’s rubbing a hand down his face in the break room , exhausted from shift after shift but unable to shake the feeling crawling under his skin . Something’s wrong .
Because you don’t just disappear on him .
Not after making him memorize the sound of your laugh over voice messages at two in the morning . Not after getting him used to hearing his name from your sweet beautiful voice , he can’t get you outta his head , “somethings wrong he though to him self …
C’mon…” he mutters quietly when another text goes on read but not replied Feeling defeated, not sure what to think or if he did something wrong he wished you just tell him .
You finally answer close to midnight .
just tired. sorry.
Jack reads it instantly . Jaw tightens . Because he knows tired doesn’t sound like this . Tired doesn’t vanish for days .
His fingers move before he can overthink it .
I’m coming over.
