The design intervention revolves around two areas of philanthropic disaster relief funds, to educate people about the disaster and its toll on ground zero first, Secondly, getting a transparent and accountable system into place for choosing what to donate, keeping track of the donation as well as the acknowledgement of the positive impact it created.
The following is a interactive kiosk which acts as information and payment counter. It can be strategically placed in places like malls, airports and other public area’s waiting spaces.
The kiosk will display the aftermath of disaster to the donor and make him more aware of the situation and ask him to be a part of the relief program. The current needs of the affected area will be listed to the donors very specifically in numbers and disaster specific. The data will be provided by the volunteer/employee in charge from various camps across the affected area. The donor decides to choose the item he/she wants to donate.
For example, there is a need of 1000 biscuit packets and the donor decides to contribute for 100 biscuit packets. He/she can choose the the biscuit from the list of items and it’s quantity. After selection he/she would be prompted toward the payment getaway which could be done through UPI/wallet or though cards. Once the payment gets done the user gets an acknowledgement of the order and the request is sent to the nearest seller close to the affected area who is registered with the relief program.
Instead of sending goods from far away places which adds to transportation cost, time, labor and complex logistics, the nearest seller will pack the ordered item which will be picked by a collection vehicle on a regular interval. The package will have a sticker with QR code and the destination name. The QR code will contain information of the donor, campsite location and the order details. The collection vehicles goes to the shops using the location details of the orders and collects the packages, the volunteer/employee scans the packages and transports it to the nearby hub-spot of the disaster affected area and the packages gets segregated into the respective campsite boxes and then gets delivered. Once the package reaches the campsite the volunteer/employee in charge scans the QR to keep an check on his needs and it also notifies the donor about the successful delivery and how much he/she has helped for the victims of disaster. It leaves the donor with a feeling of satisfaction.
