Her parents are onion farmers in the foothills southwest of Republic City, and to this day she still can't stand the smell. Another reason why her composure at Kwong's Cuisine was bound to break eventually.
She gets along fairly well with her two brothers, who still live at home, but things with her parents are strained. They can't forgive her for leaving, and she can't forgive them for trying to force her to stay (Big fight when she said she didn't want to grow onions until she died. Huge. Ugly.) She visits occasionally, but it's always a little awkward, and she never stays long enough for the conversation to get serious.
Her older brother has kids, and Ming LOVES being an aunt. Unfortunately, unsupervised visits to Republic City to hang with Auntie Ming are on an indefinite hiatus after the kids returned home knowing 5 new swear words and how to use public transportation without paying.
