How about Kairos’s Scar? Since we’ve decided Mage gave it to her. What exactly made him so mad at her as to get him to attack her?
Kairos was very happy to have surprised her master with her new ability. Mage seemed impressed that Kairos could dematerialize to the point where she could pass through anything solid.
Mage experimented with this new ability and put it through various tests to see if she could really pass through any object no matter how hard the material is. Kairos managed to pass through every block Mage placed.
Mage was even more surprised when Kairos managed to pass through even undead bodies.
Kairos felt so happy when Mage told her that the experiment had been a success, despite the fact that Mage didn't really show any emotion about what happened. The simple fact that the man did not insult her or look down on her was enough.
Mage took Kairos to her room, --- or as Kairos called her cell --- threatened her not to leave her room and finally locked her up as was the routine when Mage finished experimenting with she.
The afternoon passed quickly to give way to the night and Kairos's euphoria began to dissipate, leaving the feeling of loneliness and despair to take over the Vex. The night went on and on and Kairos was starting to get bored, she decided then that she would go out and explore a bit. Although Mage explicitly told her not to go outside, but maybe if she just explored the temple without going outside wouldn't bother her master.
Kairos used her ability to go through the door of her room and navigate aimlessly through the temple always avoiding the blue skeletal beings. Kairos believed that those beings gave Kairos away every time she left the temple and for that reason Mage always found out of her escapes and that is why Kairos is more careful with them.
Many of the rooms and chambers of the temple were more of the same, sometimes with sarcophagi in the chambers. Kairos did not like the undeads at all, their appearance seemed unpleasant and terrifying, so she did not want to see if the sarcophagi were really occupied or not. Kairos had spent the last few hours exploring the upper part of the temple and Kairos was not satisfied.
Kairos had stopped at the stairs that led to the lower part of the temple, for a moment Kairos thought deeply. Mage spent much of the day in the lower parts of the temple, it was rare to see him in the upper levels, he only went up when he experimented with Kairos. So, it was very likely that Kairos would come face to face with mage, of course, if Kairos was careless.
So, Kairos confidently took a step forward and then another and another. and in less than she imagined, Kairos was already in the lower levels of the temple. Something that she could notice at first was that there were more undead and necromancers here than up, so Kairos had to be twice as careful this time.
For the next half hour Kairos noticed that the rooms both above and below were the same, although for some reason in the lower area there were more traps than Kairos could not discern their purpose since it is assumed that if there are traps it is because there is a treasure to protect, but it didn't seem like Mage had anything valuable enough to protect to set traps.
Kairos without paying much attention followed her path. Until she found a long corridor with large pillars that supported the structure and drawings that adorned them--they seemed to tell something that Kairos couldn't decipher-- the only source of light that could be seen were small candles with green flames placed in the ground, some in pairs and others in trios. The temperature was very cold despite being located in the desert, which made Kairos shiver.
At the end of the corridor, a large ornate door with the same indecipherable drawings that seemed to have been freshly painted and that in fact was already half open. Kairos then realized that someone was inside the room when she began to hear footsteps approaching.
Kairos panicked desperately trying to find a place to hide, but it seemed the way the corridor was structured made it impossible for Kairos to hide just like that. Then Kairos desperately just dematerialized and went through the wall closest to her. Kairos hadn't fully crossed to the other side, she had only stayed somewhere in the middle long enough to hear the door open fully and hear someone step out of it.
Kairos paid more attention to the footsteps she could hear, their harshness, their sound.
They were not hard footsteps but they were firm and constant, which ruled out that it was from a husk. And his sound wasn't hollow or as if a hard object like a bone would trigger what he ruled out to be from an archer or necromancer. One thing was for sure, whoever was in the hallway was not and undead but living creature.
Kairos felt how her body froze even more when she reached that conclusion, she put her hands to her mouth and put pressure to drown out any kind of noise that she could produce and just waited for the footsteps to be lost in the long corridor . When the footsteps ceased to be heard, it was when Kairos felt safe to be able to get out of the wall.
To be sure, Kairos turned her head towards the corridor and calmed down once she confirmed that Mage was no longer in the corridor. Then Kairos's curiosity returned and she directed her gaze towards the great door once more.
Kairos opened the door and entered the room. A large room surprised the Vex, the room was as beautiful as the door that protected it, the walls adorned with drawings and strange signs, lit with fires and candles. In the corners there were some tables full of offerings such as food, gold artifacts, among other objects. And in the center of the room was a large golden sarcophagus in the shape of a person, adorned with patterns of black paint, and on top of the drawer a beautiful silver and gold crown in the shape of a desert cobra ornamented with rubies and a large emerald on the center of it.
Kairos was amazed by the magnificent piece of jewelry, deep inside she was excited by the idea of being able to have a crown like the one she had in front of her, commanding legions to do her will. She just dissolved those thoughts--she? A ruler? She was only made to serve, not to rule.
Anyway, Kairos just laughed at her fantasies but still, it didn't hurt to just pretend. Kairos then in a childish impulse approached the sarcophagus, with his eyes impregnated in the wonderful silver object above her reaching out her hands to take it. Kairos picked up the item, surprised at how slightly heavy the crown was. Kairos was about to place the crown on her head, but the sound of the door suddenly opening stopped her action. Kairos turned sharply to see who had entered the room and her ever glowing body went cold as Mage returned to the room.
Mage didn't take long to attack her the moment he noticed that she had disobeyed, and apparently he got even more upset when he noticed what Kairos had in her hands. Mage aggressively moved towards Kairos, who tried to snatch the crown from her. Kairos dodged Mage, more by instinct than anything else, however, Mage didn't take this act of insubordination well on Kairos's part who also arm her, managing to land a strong slap right on the side of the Vex's face. Due to the impact Kairos fell to the ground but without letting go of the crown.
Kairos was scared, though it wasn't the first time Mage had physically assaulted her. Kairos could feel how her body was beginning to heat up exorbitantly, although this was not unusual for Kairos. She used to raise her body temperature when she feels in danger.
But this time her body had gotten so hot that her hands began to superficially melt the crown she was holding and immediately released when she began to feel the hot liquid running down her arms.
Mage took the crown, examining it carefully, the damage having been only skin deep, but to him it was as if it was badly damaged. Kairos looked closely at Mage with fear climbing up her back, the cold in her chest taking over her as she watched as Mage tried to keep his composure, although his anger could be seen slightly on his face.
Mage just walked away to the nearest table trying to calm down turning his back on Kairos.
Mage placed the crown on the table, placing his arms next to it as he breathed aggressively.
Kairos got up from the floor and tried to apologize.
She told him that she was sorry for disobeying and that she would not do it again, that everything would be alright, that it was just a simple crown.
By saying that, Kairos made a mistake and Mage instantly let her know.
Mage took a blackened looking dagger and slashed right across Kairos's face, who once again fell to the ground in shock and pain with her hand on her left eye. Kairos could feel her hand and cheek getting wet.
Kairos crawled back, trying to escape another possible Mage attack, then she pulled herself to her feet and escaped through the walls. Without looking back she went to the stairs that led to the upper levels of the temple and from there to her room.
Kairos just rested in a corner and started crying.
After a few minutes something in her body began to feel bad, very very bad.
