Mind Ripper (1995) When a research team find a body near to death in the desert, they give him a virus to keep him alive. 6 months later, that virus comes back to haunt them. This is a strange film, it almost plays out like two movies in a way. There’s the ‘Alien’ type way in which they’re surviving a monster in the centre, and two, there’s a domestic breakdown going on. The latter wasn’t needed, and though at times plays a little humour into the film, it takes away from the sinister nature the film needed. The acting is okay in general, but the Mind Ripper alien dude plays his part really well and the film does a great job at making this mysterious character devilish and evil. There’s some really disgusting imagery on show and that’s where the film does well, there just wasn’t enough! This film is known for being written by Wes Cravens son (Jon Craven), after it being given to him as a project on what was before loosely going to be come The Hills Have Eyes: Pt 3. It doesn’t really contain much to suggest it comes from the same universe, however it’s in a desert research centre so crazier things have happened! @88_films presentation of this is gorgeous, it’s a crisp copy of the film, and I had no problems in watching this, the quality is great, it comes with a limited edition slipcover and a 4 page booklet to accompany it. Overall, Mind Ripper is a reminder of the mixed bag we got from the 90’s. It’s a decent movie, it has its flaws but it’s watchable and at times actually quite morbid!
