As reported through discord logs gio presented:
Hussie used an intermediary to approach gio and Bambosh to collaborate on UHC, promised that past conflicts won't be brought up, with the pair agreeing.
The plan was Sign NDA -> Sign License -> Collaboration, but only Bambosh was given an NDA to sign (originally with scummy clauses), leaving gio in the dark, and Bambosh was either legally unable to or unwilling to sign a license alone for both of them. Miles blamed both of them for stalling even though gio wasn't allowed to read the license agreement without the NDA and Bambosh couldn't sign for gio. Bambosh left because of Miles and Hussie's bullheadedness and bullying, leaving gio as the sole owner of the UHC reader.
Gio decided to continue with this, hoping to make UHC better and that Hussie doesn't want this to fall through. Is given an NDA, signs, and as a new precondition for the license, gets demands to delete their Hiveswap articles and disavow Sarah Z and Emily (who made a video on HS and one about Hussie's legal threat to them).
Due to constant threats of C&Ds and DMCA strikes and demands to "apologize" for past misdeeds, despite the basis of this whole conversation being a guarantee that past conflicts won't be brought up, gio is unable to see or sign any license agreement. Eventually his lawyer receives those demands and gio is told about it through a "homestuckicu" discord account (homestuck independent union)
At some point before this, HS makes an "official" fork of the UHC. Gio agrees to take down their site related to the UHC as well as not to host or link to the asset pack required for UHC to work, but not to delete any articles or apologize for things he didn't do. Gio then makes an article about this.
(I am not including Gio's editorializing and interpretation, to present this more neutrally, but a lot of the article gives this a certain framing, which I don't think is bad, but others do)
Sorry that I missed this but now I see why some people think the animated series is a cover up for this
