So we changed direction. We added random bird calls. Slight wind variation. A flicker of sunlight. And it worked. The âimperfectionsâ made the space feel real. And in wellness work, real matters more than perfect.
Designing for emotional states requires subtlety. Not every user wants the same thing. Some want stillness. Others need gentle interaction. The key is to offer choice without overwhelm.
Measurement and Feedback
Hereâs something not often talked about: How do you know if a mental wellness tool is helping?
You canât rely only on user ratings. So, we started exploring physiological trackingâusing wearable devices to monitor heart rate variability during VR sessions, or prompting users to self-report stress levels before and after.
Over time, patterns emerge. We start to understand which environments reduce tension. Which scripts help focus. Which visual cues soothe and which distract.
That data feeds back into the loop. We refine, improve, iterate.
The point isnât to make perfect toolsâitâs to make tools that listen.
