Something that I want to start doing is showcasing short films of any kind (amateur, professional, art house, live-action, animated, whatever).
This one I consider the first foreign movie and the first short film I had ever seen. It was in 2nd grade when our art teacher one day turned off the lights, wheeled in the TV, and popped this into the VCR. It’s Albert Lamorisse’s 1956 featurette The Red Balloon. What I love most about this film is that the few lines of spoken dialogue do not distract from the big picture brought to the audience via mise-en-scene. So even if you don’t speak French, you can still understand what is going on in the story.
