any port in a storm by @jojolightningfingers (e, 7k) mizo sex pollen fic ft everyone not really wanting to be there + complicated relationships!!! beautiful writing and imo the closest to "what if mizo were canon" dynamic. it's THE mizo fic to me.

Eight months into Kuraigana, Zoro trips into a patch of flowers. The only two people on hand to help him with its bodily effects are people he'd rather not ask help from; ideally, he'd deal with this stupid situation himself. Unfortunately, he can't; fortunately, bafflingly, he doesn't need to ask either of them. (He won't think about this, later.)

Why don’t you ship it?

ok so based on my realistic hcs, imo zoro and mihawk would not get into a relationship during the 2 years at kuraigana because they are both too professional™ and are both wary of "tainting" their mentor/student relationship. zoro is there to learn and mihawk is there to teach. maybe possibly there is chemistry between them (close quarters living together in a very isolated place for two whole years? very hard not to feel at least something) but neither of them would really acknowledge it and they would definitely not act on it.

What would have made you like it?

i do like it lol but within the parameters of canon, i don't think they would do anything romantic/sexual w each other. i think my feelings on it are best encapsulated by my platonic mihawk zoro shibari-for-training-purposes fic!

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

the ship name is so fun. mizo soup!! slightly separate lol but i actually haven't encountered any mihawk/zoro hate in the fandom which is really nice, esp since ik tumblr/one piece fandom prefers found-family type dynamics which like. that's fun and all (i literally have a goth family tag) but there are other interesting dynamics out there besides parental-type bonds

What made you ship it?

odd answer but. the modern AU fic Tiger by the Tail by Vandereer WHICH WASN'T EVEN A MIZO FIC!!! (see my meme below)

the funny thing is, i did not ship mizo at all (not into student/teacher type relationships in general) even while/until reading this fic!! i was telling jesse (the author of TBTT) that we are basically the hannibal s3 ending scene where he stabs me in the heart with TBTT and i grab him so we both fall off the cliff into mizo ocean lol

but um. mihawk implying he's a rabbit and calling him a little frog did things to me. also calling zoro "magnificent" before he slices him up and telling him it's not yet time for him to die and to "grow strong and come find me. i'll be waiting." aughhh

also (see: "why don't i ship it" section) on kuraigana, it's basically near impossible to not have some form of feelings when ppl spend so much time together in an isolated place for TWO YEARS!!! (not to dox myself but i was in the arctic for 6 months doing research on a base with 60 ppl max and it's not a joke when ppl say there's a lot of sex.)

like zoro is 19 (horny), missing his crew (maybe touch-starved...), there's a handsome older guy that he looks up to who's training him. add a competence kink and you're good to go

mihawk is probably lonely, has no crew, suddenly has an attractive younger guy literally throwing himself at his feet begging to call him master. like come on now

What are your favorite things about the ship?

they're both on the same wavelength of weird!! who else but zoro would think "hm let me beg the guy i hope to eventually defeat to train me. this will work" and who else but mihawk would go "yeah this kid is going to kill me one day probably. might as well have a hand in fashioning my own demise. ok i'll train you" (perona: you guys are fucked up.)

also the parallels. the student and the master, the vampire and the sire, the hunter turned pirate and the pirate turned hunter etc. also they’re awkward roommates in an abandoned castle for two years and perona is also there to be a weirdgirl (i <3 her and the kuraigana trio in general. she takes turns bullying them both)

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

i think there's like 3 people in the mizo fandom and 269 fics on ao3 right now so idk if it's even possible for things to be popular/unpopular lol...but in general i don't really think i have any? i've read everything from sugar daddy AU to dubcon to modern bdsm and i think it can all be written convincingly if set up well enough!

if you got to the end i love you. thought about making a fic rec list but i have Chores and Tasks and this post is long so i'll make another post sometime
