Pretty much done! Attempted to make it look like it was piercing the earth and causing it to erupt. The crackle paint clung to the wood filler I used to make the mound and burst the gesso paint combo I used to colour the mound. So that's the filler poking through the cracks, not my intended shade. Ah well. Looks ok. Then I added sand and painted the base. Added some gamers grass and foliage to cover the wires. Just need to do some touch ups and clean up the rim of the base. Three changes. Glued the water effect cones on. Will add water effect around their bases to fill in gaps. First coat of paint on the moss/lichen. And added wood filler to raise the area around the tendrils. Highlites on the bark. If you look at a tree, they tend to be kind of grey oddly enough. I added some dark brown wash in the recesses to try and make it more plant and less stone. Started to color the vines. Might try to make them glow somewhat as they penetrate the earth. Also added some eye OSL. Base coat is on, then first wash to darken the recesses. Will be adding a lighter dry brush to try and make it look more weathered and grey. Will concentrate that on the broken branches. Debating on eye colour. Also starting another attempt on a water base for a mini I put to the side a while back. Positioned the LEDs and epoxy puttied them in place. Hopefully my sculpting skills will obscure the wiring enough. Also added another base. The outer edge of it really. The battery housing stuck out enough I wanted the base taller to ensure it didn't rest on the battery. Been mostly experimenting with water effect, trying to get a good base glow effect for the led. First one looks pretty good on it's own, however due to how I built it the led doesn't fit inside and the water effect paste is too too built up to illuminate. So I am trying out handmade plastic cones and coating them. Hopefully there is enough space inside for the led. "Ok. What the heck is that" I am sure you might be asking. I have cut out some plastic pieces to act as a frame. Then I am covering them in Vallejo water effect (the white goop). That dries crystal clear and hopefully will look like raw power once the led shines under it. Experimentation! Then some epoxy putty to fill some gaps and reinforce the breaks I repaired.
