I've been searching off and on over the last 3 years for information about the artist of this unsigned oil on canvas (laid on board) painting. It was purchased from an estate in Jacksonville, IL. As you can see, this was painted by a skilled artist who was confident and efficient with their brush strokes. The time period (1880-1910), the midwestern provenance, and the use of an exceptional frame point to an above average American artist Last evening, I again came upon Cinncinati Artist Frank Duveneck (1848-1919). There are so many similarities with his smaller portraits.
