first about mido:

he's one of the members who talks the most at the meetings and provides the most insight.

on one hand he seems opposed to killing

but he makes contribution on who to kill and even is the one who brings up the idea of killing L.

he might put the most emphasis on making sure nobody finds out. he's the one who suggested to put pressure on the police and L. he seems pretty resigned that he has to go down with this ship. like, that's his life now and he can't do anything about it but accept it.

next point:

we see mido and higuchi together a couple times. well this could be accidental, but they do sit next to each other at the party and during the interview.

they are chatting and going to the bathroom together. higuchi looks relaxed. idk, if anything, the panel below tells me they're friendly with each other... if mido didn't like higuchi he wouldn't go with him.

another thing (interactions at the meetings):

there's two times when they disagree (somewhat. but they tend to agree more often)

i always read the reaction below as mido being annoyed with higuchi but what if he's dissappointed? he probably suspects higuchi at this point, so the way higuchi is so enthusiastic about murder leaves a bitter taste...

another time they disagree is when higuchi questions whether what coil did was impressive, but he ends up agreeing that they should spread the deaths.

in another conversation, shimura and namikawa think it'd be okay for kira to reveal himself, but kida, mido, ooi and higuchi disagree.

on this topic, higuchi and mido agree with each other a couple more times. they're pretty in sync.

(mido was the first one who proposed spreading the deaths over the week)

finale:

when namikawa brings up that higuchi is kira, mido does a long pause before speaking (only in japanese version). and he kind of just brings up higuchi's reasoning for being kira? (while namikawa criticizes higuchi). so what mido says gives a kind of melancholic feeling.

then ofc mido doesn't help him out. i like how higuchi's first smiling when he calls mido... there was a point made that higuchi could've used the death note to manipulate mido's father. why he didn't it's either: 1.he didn't think about that 2.he took mido's advice that stopping the broadcast would be suspicious 3.he didn't want to kill mido's dad cause mido's his friend. i think it's something between 1 and 3 (mostly 1).

meta:

ah btw their profiles are also put next to each other haha (but this is too meta). they're the same age (born in the same year, mido's a couple months older). their interests are kind of close, higuchi does kendo and mido fencing. they're both swordsmen... maybe that's something they bonded over?

final words (some delusion):

i think they were on friendly terms with each other before the kira fiasco. maybe it got worse after higuchi's demotion. mido doesn't think that higuchi's particularly competent or smart but they seem to get along.

from higuchi's side of things it's obvious he likes mido. he tends to agree with him, or agree with others after mido did so. he also smiles around him. cmon.

mido knows the most about him so he notices that higuchi probably is kira. but he plays along with that in mind. gives suggestions, plans how to get rid of L and the police. it's self preservation, but it's also of benefit to higuchi.

i think mido is angry and dissappointed that higuchi would turn to murder. it's like he didn't know him at all. but he did, that's why he even figured it's higuchi... so it's dissappointing, but it's also so like higuchi to do something like that.

in the end mido figures it's for the best if higuchi gets caught. the best for all of them, higuchi included.
