Thanks for the ask!
3: What’s your favourite line of narration?Â
There’s a few good ones around that I like, but this one, from Chapter 1 has always made me particularly happy:
Reality reasserted itself with the force of gravity’s introduction of his body to the ground.
5: What part was hardest to write?Â
So far, the pokémon battle at the start of chapter 2. The way pokémon moves, hit rates, abilities, and such that make up battles work in the games do not particularly pan out well to a narrative format (there are a lot of moves with an accuracy of 100 that are more interesting if they miss in the situation), and I get torn between doing far too much work to figure out how a battle would actually go based on in-game formulas, and playing out based on a general overview, with allowances made for narrative purpose.
Also, pokémon battles, for some reason, do something to my brain and make me want to write everything in present tense, when the fic is supposed to be in the past tense. This tense-swapping plagued me for the rest of chapter 2.
11: What do you like best about this fic?Â
So far? The dialogue, particularly between Rei and Akari (although I particularly like writing dialogue in general). I think they bounce off each other in a fun way. I also really liked writing Rei’s righteous indignation in chapter 3.
For the future, I have some scenes planned that I really, really like, and am hoping will come out close enough to the way I picture them for me to be satisfied.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?Â
I don’t listen to any particular songs when writing that are any different from my regular music choice. I end up writing a lot of this fic on my phone, so I actually don’t end up listening to much music at all unless there’s some in the environment.
That said, there is one particular song that is, straight up, the catalyst for this fic existing, which is “Running up that Hill.” In specific, the version by Meg Myers.
