Jaegal Minhwan meets his master as a young boy. His master is clearly a Demon of some sort, but he's influential and rich enough to cover that up.

His family wants him to be trained in combat by the famous Beom Dan-ryeong.

Beom Dan-ryeong accepts him.

Absolutely nothing creepy happens when Jaegal Minhwan is a child....but him being a little kid is kind of the whole reason for the plot...

Beom Dan-ryeong doesn't want to be in love with his young and innocent disciple. When Jaegal Minhwan comes of age he is plagued by guilt over his strong and possessive feelings.

Beom Dan-ryeong doesn't believe in his own love. He thinks his feelings are impure because of Jaegal Minhwan's age PLUS the fact that Jaegal Minhwan has calming magical blood that helps with his insanity.

It's all very ew....especially since Jaegal Minhwan is very sheltered and trusting.

Jaegal Minhwan is the son of a famous warrior family. His elder brother died because of Beom Dan-ryeong. It was a horrible accident. Beom Dan-ryeong accidentally terrified the young man, and he snapped his own neck falling down a hill at the sight of the Demon.

Jaegal Minhwan is kind of a freak for finding him attractive actually.

Beom Dan-ryeong does provide medical care for Jaegal Minhwan's mom, but that's seriously the only real nice thing he does.

He also sleeps with hot male ho's so he can district himself and deny his feelings.

ALSO.

Jaegal Minhwan's family wants him back but Beom Dan-ryeong refuses to give him back. Which leads to alot of people dying. He's a very selfish and insecure yandere.

He's a hard sell. Not a popular type of yandere....but Jaegal Minhwan is in love with him so there's an actual relationship to build upon. Not just fear. It would be alot easier if Jaegal Minhwan wasn't a noble son. The needs of his family often cause Jaegal Minhwan to choose duty over his uncertain master....that won't commit to him romantically.

Like....what is Jaegal Minhwan supposed to do??? Beom Dan-ryeong is clearly sleeping with many and he refuses to talk about his feelings. Jaegal Minhwan has a very kind sister and stepmother to care for too.

It's a hard and confusing position to be in.

Beom Dan-ryeong also does stuff like this WITHOUT MAKING ANY ROMANTIC PROMISES. He also DRINKS Jaegal Minhwan's blood....which of course makes Hwan think he's just a blood bag being kept around to soothe his Demon madness.

But...the whole time Beom Dan-ryeong was just drinking from him because he desperately wanted intimacy.

Even worse their first sexual experience together......isn't great????? It makes Jaegal Minhwan feel used and he leaves???

He returns to his family and he's miserable there????

Wtf being Jaegal Minhwan sucks...

In season 2 Beom Dan-ryeong becomes a little less weird. Jaegal Minhwan is older and he actually forces Beom Dan-ryeong to talk about his feelings.

Jaegal Minhwan says he will never marry for his family. His sisters husband can take over.

(BTW that's another reason why Beom Dan-ryeong hid the fact that his family wanted him back. He didn't want his disciple to get married.)
