@midhighlunacy continued from here!
Things had been far from NORMALITY when he’d BARGED his way into her life and it was no different in his ABSENCE. The suddenness of LAST breath had left a SCAR in her brain, a permanent picture BURNED behind eyelids, an unwanted reminder every time they shut; the very reason she hadn’t slept a full night in weeks. She didn’t WANT to be there, another POINTLESS party under the ruse of a fundraiser. It wasn’t as though anyone in the room actually gave a SHIT about the orphans, or the refugees, or whatever the cause this time. Her parents were no EXCEPTION, taking up a FACADE of laughter and light banter.
At first, the RATTLE of guns was brushed off, it was probably all in her head again. But the ABRUPT ringing of screams, the turning of heads and the URGENT scuffing of shoes against polished floor was all TOO REAL. Without a second thought she found herself caught up in a stream of panicking bodies, mind TRAPPED in a HAZE that slowed every second to a crawl.
When VICE grip caught her waist the LETHARGIC DAZE was instantly dropped, blue eyes wide and lips parted in RUSHED inhale. Gaze met his too quickly, breath cut short and she was caught in the HEADLIGHTS, she had to be dreaming. It was as though fingers had PIERCED her side ––––– injecting adrenaline straight into her BLOODSTREAM and she was practically shaking. The way he looked at her was ALIEN in every sense, like he didn’t even know her name, a thought that only heightened her CONFUSION. There were too many questions and too few answers.
Sharp STING of the blow was enough to confirm she wasn’t sleeping, she knew that backhand anywhere. Fingertips running over now NUMBED cheek in an almost SENTIMENTAL action, far too caught up in resurfaced memories to FIGHT the nameless man who tugged hands behind her back, securing wrists a little too TIGHT. Barely even registering his introduction to the crowd of now SILENCED partygoers, expression fell BLANK, she’d expected to scream or at least cry but NOTHING came of it.
