If I dont just jump in and make a post I might never start and this seems as good a place as any. I want this blog to be a place I can put some of my favorite Gore Vidal things and keep sharing his presence with the world. I dont feel like theres much of him on tumblr and thats a shame, hes the most underrated
The title of the blog "Could've Had More With Gore" is a play on a slogan for one of his losing campaigns for office "Do More With Gore". He was right about pretty much everything all the time and theres nothing but detailed smoldering smirking receipts and this blog is going to start dumping them on the table ⚖️⏱️
Somewhere in an essay he said the four best words are "I told you so" and when I find that I might see if I can make a gif. Yes, I hope through this project to learn to make a gif. There's like, no Gore Gifs and he deserves so many gifs.
Last week I saw director Ali Abassi's movie The Apprentice which is about how Trump was shaped by his mentor, sewer rat, Roy Cohn.
When I was searching for Roy Cohn later YouTube knew what I wanted to see 🥲 and the first suggestion was an episode of Midday Live with Bill Boggs from 1977 with Cohn and Vidal. After watching this interview I was even more impressed with Jeremy Strong's acting in the Apprentice. Midday Live aired in New York from 1975-1986?
Gore gets some good ones off and its always such a pleasure to read the comments under a YouTube video where those of us who adore him can gather to delight in his zingers and timeless wisdom
Roy Cohn worked for Wisconsin Senator Joe McCarthy witch hunting communists in the early 1950s and at 15:50 Vidal swipes at him subtly for the Private David Schine scandal (🥩 draft dodging, "special privileges", foto fakery, Hoover memo forgery, and this epilogue sentence: David Schine left politics after the Army-McCarthy hearing and got into entertainment, eventually becoming an executive producer of the 1971 film The French Connection")
Donald Trump and Roy Cohn met in 1973, and this Roy Cohn & Gore Vidal on Midday Live aired in 1977. Im not sure what else I want to do with the post but I think i can edit and update later I need to post a post.
